re: Biggest disappointment besides coaching?

Most disappointed (1) O Line play and (2) ridiculous penalties. Offensive playcalling in second half was 3rd.

That’s my bad then. I get so into the games in real time, that I don’t really remember how everything played out. It’s kind of a blur. I’m obviously focusing too much on the last punt because of how big it was, and combining it with the kickoff return and just the bad things we heard about the punters from camp.
That’s why I try not to make big takes the night of the game without watching some of the analysis the next day by people much more qualified than me. But very few people focused on the punting, so I’m just going by my feelings from last night. I guess I feel like the old cliche “if you have 2 blank position players, you really have none.” Todd was the highest ranked punter not just coming out of his class, but was supposed to be a phenom. And not only did he not ever just win the job outright, they had to bring in 2 transfers to compete with him. At least Bramblett won the job the last 2 years. What’s his name from Tech couldn’t even do that.
I just think field position is going to be be crucial both ways this year. Thomas just being able to not fist catch it and get us 8 or so extra yards is gonna be huge. But it’s gonna be negated if we can’t prevent the same on the opposite side. Maybe I’m just cynical at this point and we’ll be fine. I sure hope so.

Holding Branch to 0 return yards on 4 attempts was great work.
Conversely, we had 16 yards on 3 attempts, they were often punting from deep in their own territory though while our average was our 40.
Will have to keep an eye on the punting to see if the punt length becomes an issue.

Doesn't look like there has been a huge improvement in the secondary.

O-line for me. Run blocking was putrid.
Probably best OL in the country pass blocking, not kidding. For the most part, Nuss had plenty of time, they just muzzled him from the sidelines in the second half.
Also, probably a below average run blocking group. I guess that is why Miles used to like having all guards across the line, and why we could run under Miles, but had horrible pass blocking.
You look at some of Tom Brady teams....the short passing game was an extension of the running game...getting it into the RB's hands to make plays....then having the arm to beat you deep when you start cheating up. Our coaches didn't allow Nuss to go deep the entire game, imo, unless he was throwing it away. I'm sure some of the throw aways was because they had beat into him do not throw an int. Still, he finished with 75% completion and 300 yards, despite the throw aways.

The last punt was so bad. We need to be better here

I would say fan base, but LSU has waaay too many fairweather fans

I was very disappointed in the lack of discipline by some of the players which really falls on coaching prior to being in the situation.
I would like to say that overall the team had a bad game and stumbled out of the gate. Some of what appeared to be O-line blocking issues were not the O-line's fault. It truly falls back on the running back hitting the holes at the right time and making the right moves.
This team is suffering today because they all expected to win but the team play didn't reflect that attitude. I expect all, including the coaches, to get the wheels back on the cart and turn this loss into a positive by year's end.
Let's GEAUX...

Both #7s
I would add both #18s as well. Somehow Josh Williams seems smaller and slower. He took a few shots and really couldn't push for extra yards like we're used to seeing from him. Greg Penn is a liability for the third year in a row. No improvement mentally or physically.

1–Red zone. Our one dimensional offense looks like it will continually shite the bed against decent competition.
2–Our thug mentality. Unacceptable.
3–Either All-World Harold Perkins is being used poorly, or he’s just biding his time until the NFL.

Seniority obviously trumps play on the field otherwise Whit Weeks would play while Greg watches.

If you have the stomach, rewatch the game solely focusing on Perkins. He was much more impactful than people are giving him credit for. He led the team in tackles fwiw
Biggest disappointments
1 - OL run blocking obviously
2 - penalties
3 - Nuss's second-half performance. I put some of this on Sloan for getting him out of rhythm, but Nuss needs to throw a few 50/50 balls (see Miller Moss) and climb the pocket. He was too quick to check down at times, especially on third down when it mattered the most. He did a great job of doing this on LSU's last FG drive on the pass to Anderson. We needed more of that from him in crunch time.
These weren't the only negatives but are areas I assumed LSU would be better at than they showed on Saturday.
