Yeah not sure his financial situation but eventually you have to make more than 80k to put up with the nonsense of being a college head coach

UNO had no money to help him and his roster kept going to the portal. I’m surprised he stayed for as long as he did. He could easily be making six figures in any non coaching industry.

damn, only 1 month before opening day?

wonder if there is a back story to leave abruptly that close to the season

It says in the first paragraph of the article.

According to WDSU’s Sharief Ishaq, Dean is stepping away from the Privateers to pursue an opportunity outside of baseball. Dean has led UNO for nine seasons, compiling a 256-220-1 record.

His team has been decimated by the transfer portal the last few years. He doesn’t get paid nearly enough to have to deal with that BS.

80k is less than a high school coach and for all the travel, recruiting, fundraising you have to do; you gotta really love the game

Huh? Nicholls is already 100 acres bigger than UNO.

Nicholls State University's campus is 287 acres.

UNO occupies a 195-acre campus in one of the finest residential areas of the city.

all it says is what he's going do.

not why he waited until 30 days before first pitch.

only way that's accurate is if Nicholls already owns the empty ares around it (which is possible) and UNO doesn't count the area where the arena and baseball fields are located (which may not be "part of campus").

google maps has a "measure distance" feature where you can build a perimeter around properties.

So their own websites are wrong and UNO doesn’t count its own baseball field as part of campus. Got it.

A landlocked campus is the least of their problems. They have the same amount of land and the same buildings they had when the enrollment was triple what it is now.

Yeah. I went there for my masters and it just never felt much like an authentic college experience.

I’m pretty sure he was making over 100k .. but I’m also pretty sure uno won’t have a baseball team next year. He took a good opportunity when it presented itself. Good for him.

I spent a few semesters there, it’s a commuter school, nothing like being at LSU and living in a dorm or off campus apartment.

The closest to college experience was our circle playing quarters in the cafeteria after classes, think it was $2 pitchers or something similar and the dudes would play football on the levee while the girls watched and chatted.

Enrollment was probably 15-20k back then.

no, i’m saying that i don’t know how much of the empty land around Nicholls is part of Campus.

and there are plenty of examples of schools whose sports arenas are not part of their campus. that may well be the case for UNO as well.
