He will still be vastly underpaid for his performance.

The scary part is Woodward gave Jimbo that contract. Scott has gotten extremely lucky here inheriting great coaches. Let’s hope he doesn’t have to make a deal because that’s the worst deal in NCAA history and our beloved AD made that deal. WOW

OORRR, Woodward expected to come back to LSU as AD and so he hamstrung the Aggies with a mediocre coach for the foreseeable future

The bonuses were tweaked with his new contract from earlier this year -

Coach O has earned a $500K bonus for winning 12 regular season games.

Plus

-$100K for appearing in the SEC Championship game.
He could add -

+$200K for winning the SEC Championship
+$250K for making the semifinals
+$150K for making the Finals
+$500K for winning the Championship

The Regular season bonuses are NOT cumulative.

The Post Season bonuses ARE cumulative.

IF we go 15-0 ... Coach O will get $1.700 million in total bonuses.

And the guy earning his keep sleeps much better. If you love coaching and your teams aren't very successful then you aren't very happy no matter how much you get paid. That's why Tom Brady has worked for less than market bares. Winning is the biggest incentive and reward.

For O, absolutely.

That's because he had significant leverage at the negotiating table. Nothing more. Nothing less. Unlike when O was hired, the demand for Jimbo was from numerous schools. A school either met Jimbo's demands or he would coach at a place that would.

My hope is that even after this season Woodward won't back LSU into a corner by giving O a significant amount of guaranteed money (i.e. in the form of a large buyout). Feel free to give a small bump in salary and sweeten the performance bonuses. But PLEASE don't lock LSU into a bad situation just in case (not saying they will) things go south quickly after this season.

Not that I think A&M wants to get rid of Jimbo anytime soon. But even if they were, they couldn't fiscally do it for another 3-4 years

I get that and don't necessarily disagree, but think about almost $2 million in incentives. That's a big deal even at that level.

Ed isn't leaving until he retires or gets let go. A real benefit to not hiring a flavor of the month mercenary coach with no ties to the state.

I may be wrong, but I believe O would rather make less money to have the staffing he desires. He seems like the kind of guy whose lifestyle wouldn’t change much if at all if he was making 3.5M and got a raise to 7M.

It certainly makes throwing money at guys like Joe Brady and Frank Wilson easier when they come available

Woodward was instructed by aTm alumni and backers to go get Jimbo and he did his job as he was given his marching orders. I don’t think he had a lot of say in the matter.

As I have said since we signed him, he was signed at a bargain price.

I thought it was spot on. Coach seemed pretty fired up about his ham sandwich. Love it!
