Because every lez and twink on the planet is convinced that Mulkey is a homophobe.
Even if this is true, why? What happened for people to think this, I obviously missed something.

Britney Griner question. She wouldn't answer the question and the media decided she was the KKK

No it has more to do with what she supposedly told Griner when she was at Baylor. But it doesn’t make her homophobic.

I believe she may have encouraged Griner not to come out? Something to that tune. Don’t remember the details.

Yes not so much not come out but kind of keep it to herself. Of course no one knows what was said except Mulkey and Griner.

Griner wrote a book I believe. I think it details some of it in there. Personally I don’t think it sounds homophobic. But to members of the media. Griner essentially said mulkey told her she can be whoever she wants. But it’s best not to air out your business and she should just concentrate on playing ball. Griner also mentioned the coaches fearing that if there was an openly gay player on the team that parents wouldn’t want to send their daughters to play for them.

Assuming there's even a scintilla of truth to this, this would 100% be about Baylor and 0% about how Mulkey felt about Griner and/or the gay community.

I agreed that’s why I don’t really feel it was homophobic. Certainly not empowering. But honestly, who didn’t assume griner was a lesbian even at that time?

This is tough because there was a time when parents didn't want their kids to be gay, not because they themselves cared, but because they didn't want a harder path for their child. In the same way that you would rather your child chose a traditional career over a non-traditional career. Because the path to success is easier.
For the most part, I think that is over. Gay men now make more than their straight male counterparts. So there is no need to worry about how people are going to react to a gay player on a team (men or women). But I can see how the advice to keep your business private could have been appropriate to keep students safe in the past. Sad, but a possibly necessary protection.

Exactly. Like I said in another thread, this years team has several out players on it.

Add me to the list if we win tomorrow
If anything, maybe this doofus will learn to keep his disdain for people to himself and stick to reporting the facts.
