re: Consensus recruiting class rankings

Good post. We have players. The coaches are not coaching them up. There is a lot of talent on this team. No excuses. We will see how the team responds after getting thumped by TN. This game will be a great indicator.

They do, but it’s also that we have seen a disproportionate amount of starters transfer from those classes as well. How is Arik Gilbert and Eli Ricks playing for Georgia and Bama supposed to help us this year?
Posted on 10/11/22 at 8:29 am to pitchandcatch27
It was a terrible post. We don’t have the players to be competing a lot an extremely high level. Multiple people have posted the insane levels of attrition from those classes.

Right, we start a walk on at running back but we have all of the talent in the world because of a recruiting class 4 years ago with like 2 of those guys still on the team.

So we have better personnel than 90-95% of teams but we can’t field a decent team? Excuses, excuses. If our current QB isn’t replaced we MAY win two more games, at best.
Now let us know how many of those players from the rankings you listed are actually on the team.

Orgeron was a good recruiter
No he wasn’t. He started signing stars and really was a poor evaluator of talent. He didn’t look at guys as to how they fit our system.
For example, look at Ika. He was a top NG recruit. I signed him and immediately converted to a 4-3 D. Not only did it mess Ika up, but it also messed Shelvin up.

In the off season I usually soften my view that lots of LSU fans are dumber than a dead screwdriver. Then the season starts and THEY PULL ME BACK IN!
Posted on 10/11/22 at 8:52 am to how333
Just because your recruiting classes were ranked high doesn’t guarantee that they are actually good and not over rated. Just look at Texas last year, no players drafted despite their recruiting classes from 3, 4 and 5 years ago were all top ten
You can’t recruit just off of the ratings, the players must be evaluated properly

I like people put way too much stock in recruiting rankings…
not really...they mean a shite ton as far as developing talent. all you have to do is listen to the stars matter podcast and you figure that out really quickly.
what has changed is that now you cant just look at the overall recruiting rankings, now you have to look at the team talent rankings because of the trasnfer portal. but even that you have to look at what team talent is in their 3rd year in the system and up or atleast 2nd year and up.
sure you can get some transfers like USC did and turn it around but those types are going to be far and few between. Look how bama, ohio state, georgia are all built. 1-2 transfer studs starting....majority of the rest are recruited talent in their 2nd year or later.
we dont have that at all. anyone that thinks we should be better than 8&4 at best based on the roster is dellusional.
do we have problems...absolutely. is QB play and play calling contributing to that...absolutly and all you have to do is look at BKs frustration on the side line where he is scream "fricking THROW IT!!" to know he is frustrated too.

A lot of those guy are not on the team anymore. For whatever reason.

They don’t get it. You’re arguing with people who lack the capacity to reason at that level

Let me repeat that. 52 of the 98 players are either gone or injured.
The talent on this team was decimated the two years before CBK. They either left or it was not developed.
CBK biggest job at this point is to build up the roster with talent.

Did not play in the Texas Bowl, but are still with the team this season. There were a lot of covid protocol and injury issues. There were many other scratches for draft opt outs and transfers which is to be expected when an entire coaching staff is being let go and you have a lot of draft eligible players.
All of this is really moot because we’re up to 72 scholarship players and they’ve gotten rid of the 25 signing limit, so Kelly can sign as many recruits as he wants to get back to 85.
Also, "up to 72"?? That's not a good thing! Thank BK he got us over 70, but it's supposed to be 85.
This is on the frickwad whos balls are in your mouth

52 of the 98 that have been recruited or transferred into the LSU program the last 4 years are either gone or not playing due to injury.
The team currently consist of 46 players recruited from high school or transferred from other college programs available to play plus walk-ons. (Some of the walk-ons are serviceable like Mashburn and Josh Williams.)

How many of those players, are currently in the roster? Not many, so this post is pointless.

And yet people say we don’t have the players. A big BS to that theory
Most of those players are gone and the 2 best from the 21 and 22 class are hurt
don't be obtuse
