Dalton & Garry James burst onto the scene in 1982. They were freshman

And if we needed 3 yds or less, James could get that running for the corner every time! He was fast enough where nobody could stop that! Nobody.

Kiner wore it in HS, and probably asked for it. I suspect several coaches have explained to him the expectations that go with those digits.

Oh nooo! Not another frigging special number bullshite. Just give it up, Kiner wore it in high school!! End of story. Just because Stovall and Hilliard wore it...jeez let it go. Nobody has to tell Kiner shite about this number. If he looks at the history he will notice that Dalton wore it, but nothing more. Stovall was a QB and a lot different build, so let it go!!

We have enough of this overblown crap with #7 and #18 to add another frigging number

If there is a number that is not "retired" that has some historical onus to it, it's 21. Jerry Stovall, Dalton Hilliard.

I suspect almost all of our current coaches have never even heard of Jerry Stovall or Dalton Hilliard.

Same.

It’d be nice to think players now gave a damn about anything but themselves, but most don’t. It’s not about winning or team or tradition. It’s about get me to the nfl and now NIL.

The OP had a nice sentiment, but it’s just not the world of college football anymore

I heard Jacob Hester mention on a podcast recently that he was very impressed after talking with Kiner.
He said Kiner wanted to learn about LSU History, so I'm sure he will find out about Dalton Hilliard if he hasn't already.
(I don't know about Kiner's affinity for 21, but a lot of guys like 21 because of Deion Sanders.)
