Hickey and O'Bryant have shown spirts, nothing great. But Trent has shown he hasnt improved anyones play year in and year out for his entire career as a coach. Hamilton fell into his lap out of luck.

First of all
First of all having 4 final fours puts us in the top 25 in the nation. WIth the players we have had come through here we are higher than that. You want to know what other schools have "only" four final fours? Syracuse Arizona Florida UConn
Schools with fewer-Texas Memphis NC State Marquette Wake Forrest.
What happened in the loss is indicative of the season. We chunked up bad shots we played soft and the list goes on. Trent should have had this team ready to go. He didnt. We missed out on a huge recruit who we needed to fill some big holes.

Other schools would completely laugh at some the "accomplishments" of our basketball program.

Nobody is excusing this loss. It was bad. But this game is not indicative of our entire season

Hey Goldmill, have long have you been alive ? Dale Brown beat UK 19 times, more than anyone ever has. If UK has ever been challenged by anyone, it was Dale and LSU... just ask a UK fan.
And look at the accomplishment we have to show for it. Who the hell cares if Dale could beat Kentucky in the regular season when Kentucky was holding the trophy at the end.

You're talkin' about the best all-time prgram, at least top two. Get a clue.
Posted on 2/25/12 at 4:01 pm to tiger81
Dale also went to two Final Fours... 81 and 86. That's two games from winning it all.
Posted on 2/25/12 at 4:02 pm to Mickey Goldmill
How do you say who the hell cares if we beat Kentucky if they are holding the trophy at the end, but you sit here and celebrate beating the Aubruns and UGAs of the world?
Laughable. You would have thought we won the SEC after we beat MSU. You make no sense.

You threw ONE STAT about Final Fours. That defines what a good and bad program? Okay bud.
How about 6 Elite 8s ever. To me that says we got close to a National Title 6 times in our history. Yeah guys, we are a traditional powerhouse that should never have rebuilding periods.

UK won two NC's while Dale was coaching.
Along with UK, LSU was the first team int he country --with Kentucky to be a one seed in the NCAA tournament when seeding started in '79.
But keep telling yourself LSU has no tradition, never done anything and Dale's teams were never contenders.
Please post more on LSU basketball.

Haha are you really that ignorant Lester? A UGA or MS State win is exciting in the context that we are getting wins now that we haven't the last 2 years...which adds to the overall sign of improvement as a program.
Not. That. Hard. To. Understand.

Did I say that? lol
He had a few really good years. I said perennial contender. Just look it up dude. It's not that hard.
I would kill to be going to the Tourny every year right now, but that's still not the final goal.
Trent deserves the chance to show he can keep improving the program to that point, and then, hopefully, beyond.

When players improve so does your team and the record. To build a program like we are supposedly doing your players must get better. From what I have seen Hickey and Hamilton have carried this team, not the returning players except for Warren. Turner is not even close to the player he was last year and Stringer with the exception of a few games is a liablity. LSU should never lose to Ole Miss by 24 especially with what was a stake today. Have we ever lost to Ole Miss by 24? There really is no excuse to lose like we did today this late in the year. From a coaching and player standpoint and having a chance to get in the NCAA with a couple of more wins, to go out and get killed wtf is going on. At some point someone has to think, it may be time to cut bait and move on. Not to mentioned getting tossed in a blow out, that was embarassing.

It's not about emotion, the state of this LSU program and where it is in the SEC and NCAA after Trent has had this long to prepare a team and recruit etc. speaks for itself. The real improvements just arent there and it doesnt look like theyre coming anytime soon. With a conference as weak as it is this year theres just no excuse for it. I get that you are a Tiger fan and thats great and all.
but the more you try to back up your sunshine pumping with "we improved" the more I question your observation skills.
We've been declining since year two under trent.

Gotcha. This is fun.

Well considering only half of the elite 8 teams arent included in the final four numbers its probably very similar. I cant find those numbers right off hand. No one said anything about never having to rebuild. Hell UK had to rebuild after Tubby Smith and they missed on Gillespie. However they at least could sit there and admit when it didnt look like it was working out. TJ inherited a team that was good enough to win the conference. We went from there to promptly going into the gutter. And now we are supposed to accept pure mediocrity with no end to the mediocrity in sight?
Im not.

Guys I'm just throwing facts at yall. Sorry if the truth hurts your misguided memories about LSU Basketball.
The facts you threw out do indeed point to the fact that we were a contender. Dude. Did you watch hoops in the 80's. We were always mentioned among the top teams. We always competed. We won conf championships. We advanced in the tourney.

See,Mick. That's just it. You've just thrown out erroneous statements that are way off the mark. You're about a two wood from a fact in this thread.

The evidence is there for everyone to see. Some can't seem to admit we've bottomed out. I was hoping Trent would make the big dance and save his job. I really was, even though the team is shite. The program is a joke.
Now, lets look at Tennessee. They have first year coach who inherited a mess. He pulled it together enough to be competitive. They beat Florida, twice. He brought in a true freshman a few weeks ago who is arguably the best talent on the team.
If they come into our house and beat us down in year four of Trent's rebuilding process, I can't see any other choice but to make a move.

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!! We have improved this year pretty substantially over last year, we have some good recruits on the radar, and we will have an older team. That's enough to give Johnson a chance to continue that improvement.
If we decline next year from this year, I say it's time to cut ties. That's logic fellas...get introduced.
