Shyrone Carey

LSU bio says ,"

That was the game that solidified our return to the upper echelon nationally. We have been there ever since.

I've always felt Domanick Davis was one of the more underrated LSU players. He played much of his career as RB2 behind Toefield but was arguably a better overall player considering what he was able to do as a returner and (to a lesser extent) receiver.

He stepped up in the 2001 SECCG after Toefield went down and had a huge game in the Sugar Bowl (4 TDs) which, at that point was the biggest LSU game in decades. He then went one to be a 1,000 yard rusher for Houston in 2 of his 3 season (falling just short of 1000 in year 3)

Dom ranks 19th in NFL Career rushing yards per game. Right in between LaDanian Tomlinson and Saquan Barkley.

I lived in Broussard Hall in Fall ‘98 and he used to come to my room to play PlayStation. Gave me his family tickets to the UF game and I made the trip all the way down there. Final score did not represent the beat down we took in that game. I remember Arnold Miller’s dad screaming about how bad Thomas Dunson was and Dunson’s mom crying over it.

One who certainly wasn't unsung while he was here but seems to have been lost in the conversation (shouldn't be) after 20 years of dominating players at his position is Josh Reed. I don't think many people realize he still holds the single season SEC record for yards per game. Had bowl stats counted when he played here, his season total in 2001 in 13 games was 108 catches, 1979 yards and 9 TDs. That's 152 yards per game.

For comparison's sake, Justin Jefferson holds the single season receptions record at 111. He needed 15 games to do what Reed did in 13. Jamar Chase had 1730 receiving yards which is technically the school record by 40 yards. Again, Reed had 1979 in the 13 games he played to the 1730 Chase had in 13 games. Reed also did this in an era that was still run heavy, ball control offense. LSU had 451 rushing attempts to 411 pass attempts in 2001 compared to 513 rushing attempts and 567 pass attempts in 2019.

Key part of that 2007 championship and often overlooked because that defense was so stacked

No love for my guy Terrace Marshall. Before injury in 2019, he was actually LSU’s leading receiver in touchdowns. His 13 TDs that year would have been a school record in almost any other season. Then in 2020, after JJ went pro and Chase opted out, he hauled in 10 touchdowns in 7 games. Including the massive game again Mizzou.

Josh Williams. Offered money elsewhere. Walked on. Played from the heart and earned a scholarship.
