Gotcha. Just remembered seeing Mitchell in the Cajundome so I knew it was while they were still in the Sun Belt.

Yea and we ended up replacing him with Patrick who brought Simmons. Interesting how it all works out.

Oh shite

Lynn Nance. Brent Scott was a good asst imo.

quote:

Aside from his career as a coach, Nance also served as a special agent for the FBI, as well as working as an assistant director for the NCAA.[4] Nance drew upon his experience as an FBI agent to write a novel titled Bridger:Deadly Peril.[5]

Cant wait to read the excerpt where he sends malcolm white out on a search and destroy mission.

and seems well liked and respected by his players, just not a strong in game coach....so Johnny and I'd be ok with Johnny Jones as an assistant

Yep.

If he was a good head coach, he wouldn't be available to hire as an assistant coach.

There are plenty of great assistants that were failures as head coaches.

The list of recruiting aces that became successful head coaches is almost non-existent.

I am disappointed. I know nothing about this guy except that he is connected in a round about way with our out going coach. I just think that Wade would have been smarter to hire someone who couldn't be compared in anyway to CJJ and that would have brought a fresh outlook to the team. I also wonder how Wade knows this guy and if he is not getting advice from the wrong places.

The thing that concerns me though, is if he has strong recruiting ties to the state of Texas, why couldn't he get enough Texas players to help him field at least an average team at North Texas? That scares me at least a little even if he is a better assistant than head coach. I believe in Wade's ability though, so assistants aren't going to make or break him. Unlike Johnny, Wade is an excellent in game coach so he doesn't need the best assistants to hide his weaknesses. This post was edited on 3/28 at 12:11 pm

A school in the deep south has one black head coach (Coach Robinson, Cross Country). How is this not a disgrace?

This is why people talk about the NCAA "plantation."

The lack of black head coaches in the NCAA, particularly in basketball, is disgraceful.

ETA: I am not picking on LSU, it is a problem throughout the NCAA. I'm an LSU fan.

Walking through the front door with a P5 polo on gives you an automatic edge as opposed to wearing one from North Texas.

Frank Wilson is a rock star recruiter, but he's still only pulling in at best 3 stars at UTSA.

So Coach Jones was too incompetent and inept to be the head basketball coach at LSU, but the coach who coach who couldn't carry on Coach Jones' legacy at UNT is competent enough to be an assistant?
