Well yeah, Georgia kept running right at him. They had like 250 rushing yards and averaged over 6 yards per carry.

He should be playing a roving Safety. He gets lost at LB.
At safety he can use his speed and ball skill talents much more effective

But does he have ball skills? I haven’t seen any evidence of that.

A middle linebacker is only as good as the interior Dline he plays behind.

I agree, but Whit Weeks has looked good, and despite what the ignoramuses on here say, Greg Penn continues to play well, too.

Perkins is a pass rusher. He is not a middle line backer.
Perkins is a pass rusher. He is not a safety.
Perkins is a pass rusher. He is not some special hybrid defensive player

Play him where he can rush the QB and make an impact on defense.

2022 SEC championship game vs UGA is probably the best way to keep him on the field the most. We had him at star covering mcConkey man to man in the slot which he was great doing that game. When we played zone and the slot wasn’t on his side we rushed him. He didn’t have a sack but he had some pressures, we just got hammered between the tackles and Penn couldn’t stay with Bowers in coverage.

In 22, every offense schemed and slid to Ojulari. They worried about him first and this allowed Perkins to cause problems. We haven’t had Ojulari since then, so they set up for Perkins now.

We as ranters were looking at it like we have another TM7. What changed for this man?

Here he is vs Georgia losing contain, look how far Bowers moves him to spring the back for a 20+ yard run

Two plays later, he gets blocked completely out of the play and Bennett runs right through the lane he vacated

Meahwhile it shows one man took him out on several occasions. It happens with frequency now.

Seems like i remember a bunch of us making these same comments when we moved Patrick Queen from outside to inside and he struggled for a few games and then ended up being a pretty solid linebacker.. However id rather go back to the see ball get ball scheme with Perkins, fck all the this will help his draft stock bs, an NFL team knows talent but when you scheme him out of games they have nothing to watch

Well that’s one occasion and if you look at the shots you’ll see initially he’s in good position but there’s a giant lane inside the tackle with no LB flow or scrape. Next shot shows him closing down the hole, now you can argue his responsibility is contain but again huge hole inside he tries to squeeze and gets turned by bowers and the back bounces outside. Then we see the final shot where still no LB in the play and a db in chase so that big gain isn’t really on him, it’s going big no matter what he does there. Second play is just him running the pipe, rushing the passer so definitely not his responsibility.

They were able to take him completely out of plays with just a tight end on multiple occasions, whether it be Bowers or Washington.

They are trying to make him into something that he's not. He is not a middle linebacker Sam Mills type guy. He is more of a Hybrid, ball hawk guy bigger version of honeybadger. Let him come off of the def end's shoulder and rush in to get the qb on passing downs.

What good is he when the opponent doesn’t pass?

Teams run the ball half of the time. Yes, put him in on passing downs; sit him in regular.
I don’t believe he is an every down guy right now.

He can rush in and get the
RB in the backfield. He seems to do better before the backs get a head of steam.

Once in a while he makes a play.

I could see him playing a role similar to Simmons at Clemson a few years back, but I haven’t seen him show the savy or instincts that guy showed.

Well, I reckon that settles the argument. We've identified two plays where a freshman got blocked out of the play. That negates anything positive we could ever say about him, ever again. Call the Hall of Fame and tell them to remove Reggie White's name and bust, because he, too, sometimes got blocked out of a play.

Now before you accuse me of a strawman, I want to be clear that I'm only taking your attempt to invalidate Perkins' play as a freshman and giving it as much respect as you've shown for the arguments in his favor. Nobody here claimed that Perkins was mister perfect. But he was very good, and much better than he is right now, playing another position.

If Georgia had to use Bowers to help with Perkins, that was a win for LSU, taking him away as a receiving target on those plays.
