Aranda had the benefit of following competent coordinators,

Who? 3rd and Chavis?
Umm, yeah? Chavis was at LSU from 2009 to 2013. His 2011 team was considered maybe the best defense in LSU history. We love to bitch about him, but his defense were all considered above-average at the national level, and a strength of the team.
Aranda followed that, with the talent Chavis left him.

House came in following Pellini's 1 year disaster, and Daronte Jones' half-year of suck, half year of solid play. House inherited a secondary that Ricks and McGlothern (likely starters) bailed out on, leaving gaping holes where corners should be.

Note that our secondary features players that were at Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma State and ULL last year... not guys that were already here when he came.

Linebacker, you had Baskerville and Mike Jones; Baskerville had to play himself out of the doghouse, and Jones has been meh. Our best LB is Perkins, a freshman.

D Line was expected to be a strength. Maason Smith, maybe the most acclaimed guy, went down before halftime of the first game. Ojulari has played to hoped-for levels.

Aranda (and Chavis before him) ran schemes with NFL starters in the secondary, linebacker, and line. House didn't inherit much at all, he's had to do this on the fly. Perkins is a great help there, but that secondary has been solid, something we weren't sure would happen.

House may turn out to be better but I don’t get this revisionist history that Aranda underachieved.

You are the very first person I have ever heard say Aranda underachieved.

, I just never really noticed a game where a team scored 17 in the first half and then our defense completely locked them down.

OM in '16. Gave up 21 pts to Freeze and Kelly in the first half. 0 pts in the 2nd half.

Reb offense hung 43 pts on Bama that year.

LSU actually doesn’t have much depth on the D-line. Roy and Wingo play the vast vast majority of the snaps.

I guess why I now say House is because I’ve never felt more comfortable watching a tight game than Arkansas this year. I had full faith we (The Defense) would do what needed to be done that day.
Never felt that way with Aranda exactly.

Anyone saying Aranda wasn’t an elite DC is smoking crack. People should just be happy we have had 2 phenomenal DCs come through the program in Aranda and House.

And what excuse will you create when this defensive unit puts just as many guys as the 2019 D in the NFL because I hate to break it to you but they will.

none? Is that some sort of gotcha?

I don't really care, but if this team puts a ton of guys in the NFL, it's because they developed and performed under House, not because they already had a reputation and were playing out the string.

Do you think this defense has the talent in the secondary 2019 had (Stingley, Fulton, Delpit, Flott, Vincent)?

I'd take Aranda, but I have not seen enough of House yet.

Their situations were so different, and House is displaying a competence which I hope will prove useless in another year or two - he is hiding a deficiency in his secondary. During Aranda's entire tenure, LSU had great cover corners who could be left in man to man no matter who the other team had at WR. That gives the DC so many opportunities to be creative. House does not have that luxury, so it's hard to compare them.

Aranda was so friggin good! I loved to watch his defenses. They were cerebral, constantly changing, hiding what they were doing, and still aggressive.

I mean, what the frick is this? Aranda constantly made adjustments that shut other teams down. How does this garbage have so many upvotes?

Our defenses were better when we didn't have Burrow. Try again.

Love Aranda but I'm going with House. 95% of our secondary are transfers. No Stingley, PP7, White or Claiborne. House has been great.

Not sure the point you’re trying to make but I’ll help you.
The only thing Burrow did that potentially put Defensive stats in a tough position is we didn’t grind out long drives. We were quick score at times and D was right back on the field.
If you personally don’t know the difference between the depth on Arandas team vs House you should probably move on to another thread.
DLine is the only thing that is the same or maybe better.

Correction: He inherited a GREAT DL. Then Smith got injured and it turned into a very good DL.
