Surely if your QB is terrible, like a lot of you claim, you are going to adjust your scheme to be a primary rushing offense, right?

Yeah, but you HAVE to throw it sometime...otherwise you get defenses with 9 in the box like the Tigers saw lots of times when JJ was in the game.

Can't be one dimensional and successful in the SEC.

and so what did we do when the box is full? do we have hot reads ready? do we have screens designed? do we dump it off right where the linebackers were? or do we just throw our QB to the wolves w/ no additional protection? yeah, let's do that. dlineman eating our lunch? should we roll the pocket? double team or have a back help out? no, let's just let him beat our OL like a rented mule and rack up a few sacks.

we've got an absolute embarrassment of riches at the skill positions, and absolutely could not get creative enough to get them the ball.

True, but it's hard to call a pass play like that when your QB's can't throw the ball.

So neither Lee or Jefferson are capable of throwing a screen pass?

Get the frick out.

And the two games we did throw against the LBs -

23/30 for 395 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT.

Can we just get Mettenberger and hope he solves all these problems?

Not that Les would play him over two seniors even if he was the MUCH better one anyway...

Wonder if he can run the read option?

Stopped reading here

None of his previous employers had to dwell on his first year enough to realize he goes nowhere but down.

Once the QB's that he comes into the program with leave, he doesn't know what to do.

I never said I love Crowton and I agree the playcalling sucked at times but if I had a special olympics QB in the SEC I wouldn't know what the hell to do either. Lee is a lot more talented yet he was never given a shot. I blame Miles for this not Crowton.

Dixon was an average QB in a shitty conference that doesn't know how to spell defense. Look at Masoli. He was exactly like Dixon last year. He comes to a real conference and look what happens. Doesn't matter who the coordinator is right now. As long as #9 is our Qb, the playbook might as well be a coloring book.

You can't be serious.

Have you seen the offensive plays the last 2 1/2 years? There's only 1 team that has fewer touchdown passes than us.

Army. ARMY!!

End of discussion. Flush that poo of an O/C down the toilet for good.

The next line was not "Because I'm an Arkansas fan"
So I quite reading.

I don't know why no one is stating the obvious.. Chavis is the real problem.. If we didn't play defense we'd get more points.. It's so SIMPLE!!

Like my previous post verified, it's not about LSU's current QB situation. It's about the fact that once the QB leaves that was already developed when he arrived, he fricking chokes on the big one. It's crowton, it was crowton at BYU, it was crowton at OREGON, it was crowton, and it's crowton's fault our offense went drastically downhill.

BYU
2001: BYU went 12-2. They scored an amazing 608 points (46.8/game). Luke Staley was the leading rusher in the nation. However they got killed in their last two games. Everybody loved Crowton as head coach. What a great season! But it was a terrible watching them get killed by Hawaii and Louisville. Coincidentally, Luke Staley was injured in the two games BYU lost.

2002: Their record was 5-7. BYU’s first losing season in 30 years. They scored 272 points (22.7/game).

2003: BYU went 4-8. They scored 196 points (16.3/game). They didn’t score a point in the game versus Utah, the first time they went scoreless in a game in my lifetime.

2004: BYU went 5-6. They scored 267 points (24.3/game).

BYU went from scoring 608 points in 2001 to a low of 196 points in 2003! This was against average teams in the Mountain West Conference. He was the head coach and offensive coordinator at BYU
OREGON
Oregon

2005: Oregon went 10-2. They scored 414 points (34.5/game).

2006: Oregon went 7-6, losing their last 4. They scored 383 points (29.5/game).

There you have it. The only year he improved upon his previous year while at the same program was 2004. BYU couldn’t have gotten any worse after a terrible year in 2003.

The truth is Gary Crowton has a good offense. But smart teams are going to figure it out. Guess who was coaching Utah when BYU went scoreless in 2003-Urban Meyer. Most of the coaches in the SEC are almost as smart as Urban and they will shut down LSU’s offense. LSU has great athletes and he will find a way to make them look bad.

The Las Vegas Bowl was a great game this year. For most fans, I am sure it was a boring game. BYU almost shut out Oregon and won the game 38-8. Watching Oregon play brought back bitter memories of when Crowton was at BYU. They looked clueless out there. BYU’s secondary was injured. They didn’t have most of their best players playing because of injuries. Crowton failed to take advantage of his highly athletic receivers. Instead he was worrying about which quarterback to play on which down.

Be ready for an undisciplined offense that fails to make any adjustments-during the game or season.

LSU will probably have a great year with their athletes. They will score a lot of points. But don’t expect them to stay that way. Not with Crowton as the offensive coordinator. The numbers don’t lie.

research LSU's top scoring offense in 2007 and watch the decline in offensive production

I think you may be on to something here with this Crowton issue.
Let's keep an eye on it over the next few years and see if there's any substance to your theory...

2007= top 5 offense
2008= top 100+ offense
2009= top 100+ offense
20010= top 90 offense

do we really need more time to spot the trend here

i'll just throw this in there

2007 LSU - 541 Points scored in 14 games. Crowton's 1st year.
2008 LSU - 402 Points scored in 13 games. Crowton's 2nd year.
2009 LSU - 323 Points scored in 13 games. Crowton's 3rd year.

2010 LSU - 313 points scored in 12 games (7 passing TDs - 1 a HB pass, 27 rushing TDs, 31 XPs, 26 FGM)
