I cannot remember an athlete recruited to LSU that has been so disappointing.

Johnny may be a great recruiter, but can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

And that being said, the class coming in is pretty meh on paper and the immediate future don't look all that rosey either.

Most overrated player in the history of competitive athleticis. Blakeney 2nd most over rated in history of competitive athletics

obviously this is over the top, but there's some truth in it. Blakeney of course has been a major disappointment.

Simmons has a ton of skill and is fluid handling the ball and passing. He can also finish well at the rim when he penetrates. I'd say he's great at these parts of the game.

But the glaring flaw in his offensive game is that he has no game beyond 10 feet. Maybe even 6 or 8 feet from the rim. None.

If I'm an opposing coach, I put a quick defender on him and sag WAY off and MAKE him shoot jumpers. Resist penetration at all costs, and you take away so much of what Simmons is, because he can't force defenders to step out and guard him on the perimeter due to a lack of a jump shot.

Unfortunately, we'll see more of this during the year once opposing coaches figure it out. Jones can counter that by posting up Simmons, but then that takes away his ball handling and penetration from the perimeter. But that's what will be required.

This is all true. But the same could have been said of Magic Johnson his first and even second year at Michigan State. He had no offensive game whatsoever outside of 6 feet.

And honestly he didn't rebound as well as Ben has or have as good a post up game at this stage IMHO.

I just think the inability of CJJ even with the gift of the extra practice and practical game preparation in Australia to find a way to motivate Ben and best utilize the talent and skill he has to best benefit the team is a factor to be considered.

I mean, the fact that you have a kid leading the country in rebounding and averaging 19 points a game and 6 dimes a game and we are calling him the most overrated flop in the country seems somehow ludicrous, but there definitely is some disappointment in watching him play in that his talent and skill is being wasted and his overall quality of play belies the impressive numbers.

It's that what he could and should be is so much better and that's what is so frustrating.

Remember all our excitement and anticipation about three months ago?

Man, we just knew this was a surefire Sweet 16 team, maybe even Elite Eight or Final Four.

Perhaps, but Magic led his team to a 25-5 record his freshman year, with a Big Ten title and they got to the Elite 8. His sophomore year he led them to a 26-6 record and the national championship.

So it is true that Magic didn't fully develop his outside shot until he was with the Lakers, but he had enough game to dominate and lead his team to conference and national titles.

That's not happening here.
