Our all time team would DESTROY NC St as well.
Hell, we'd beat any school's all time team other than UCLA or UNC.
That's selective and not necessarily indicative of the strength of a program on the whole. But it is absurd to say NC State is a big time basketball school (some have even used the word "blueblood") when you actually look beyond the location and conference affiliation.
It's a good job. It's a place where the right coach can win, and win big. But so is LSU. Don't let a shitty coach determine the potential strength of the program. Places like Auburn, Alabama, Florida weren't "powerhouses" until they landed the right coach. Unfortunately, LSU just has a bad coach right now.

Now tell us which of these other teams has their All SEC caliber player out with an injury along with an experienced and skilled insie player lost with a season ending injury,
Alabama last year. Lost 2 starting guards for the season 8 games into the year, one of whom was a starter on a final 4 team and the other was one of the top mid major transfers. They made the elite 8.

I’m so glad I don’t like basketball. You poor bastards having to endure this shite; it’s brutal!

It is a mythical and unrealistic type of statement.
But I would love to see a team try to handle Shaq, Pistol, Petit, CJ, and John Williams.
I agree that LSU and NC state are similar jobs. But it's hard to ignore the 2 titles that they have when comparing.
And NOBODY was more pissed than me when Wittenburgh threw up that prayer. I had a buddy back then that talked my ear off about NC state
You may not know this, but Pepperdine had them buried in the 1st round game. It was the last game on Friday night.
NC state was down 10-15 with 3 minutes left. They fouled repeatedly and came back and won. If Pepperdine could've closed out, that dunk.never happens.

Mark Sears and Labaron Philon were the starting guards and neither were lost for the season.

Latrell Wrightsell was the starter alongside Sears to start the year, not Philon. And yes, if you want to play semantics Houston Mallette was not a starter but was going to be a major contributor and is a starter for them this year. To further my point, 2022 LSU did actually lose 2 starting guards (Miller and Pinson) and still made the tournament.

The two titles are irrelevant.
Thats like saying Nebraska is a better program than Oregon because of the run in the 90's

He is 10th in career winning % among all active HCs (with at least 10 years of HC experience). Some of the guys ahead of him are names like Few, Self, Izzo, Pitino, Calipari, Sampson. He had a .673 winning % at LSU. The highest career winning % at LSU since the 1920s. But for the 2020 tournament being cancelled, he would have led LSU to 4 straight NCAA Tournaments. The last time LSU did that before Wade...1990 - 1993 In his 5 seasons at LSU he had 56 SEC wins. That was third behind only Rick Barnes (61) and John Calipari (62) during that period. And neither Cal nor Barnes had to rebuild the worst team in the SEC in year 1 of that period. Yep, looking at that, I can't understand why any LSU fan would want to hire him back Which further illustrates the hate for Wade by some LSU fans isn't actually based in any degree of logic or fact. It's SOLELY based on having a contrarian position. Some illogical hope, for the sake of hoping, that they will be right and the crowd will be wrong because take the name of the resume and the same people saying Wade "sucks" would be the same people demanding LSU hire a HC with that resume.
I will add to all the Wade hating revisionists, that he was pulled from 2 NCAA tournament appearances and you mentioned the COVID year that never happened. That team was set up for a deep run.
Even if he never made it further than sweet 16, the PMAC was full and rocking. There was excitement and enthusiasm for the program and it was making the university $$$.
People who wouldn’t take WW back either don’t follow BB or just have irrational hate for him.
Wade back would be monumental and would immediately energize the program overnight. Even if we don’t get him back, a young, energetic coach can and will win here and we fans deserve better than our current coach.

Eh, probably not. Most projections had them as an 8 seed.

True.
The biggest frustration for me was the 21-22 season showed he could do what had been LSU's biggest anchor in his first 4 years...put together a good defensive team. For much of that season LSU was the number 1 ranked defense in the nation. At worst, they were in the top 5 at the end of the regular season. The offense took a big backslide that year, but the prior four years showed he was capable of having an elite offensive team. It felt like the balance that is absolutely necessary to win a NC was maybe starting to come into form. Particularly considering he was on the verge of signing his highest ranked HS class at LSU and had shown he appeared to be capable of finding difference making transfers (Eason went from 6th man to All SEC and a 1st round pick). The poof! It was all gone.
History shows (and will show) that LSU fired Wade to avoid a "death penalty" (that was never going to come) then, in effect, implemented a self imposed death penalty by hiring McMahon
I have never said LSU was unjustified in firing Wade (even if I wish they didn't). It's just that they followed it up by hiring a guy who may have been one of the worst hires possible fully entering a completely new era of the sport. A guy that has wanted to construct a program like it was 2019-20 in a world of college that doesn't exist anymore.

Cut the basketball program altogether and give that $$ to Jay Johnson $

That makes a ton of sense.
LSU is already at the pinnacle of college baseball and STILL loses money (or doesn't turn much of a profit). You can't really get much better than the best program in the sport. More money is not going to bring the baseball program to a higher level of success...because there is no higher level of success.
On the flip side, there is significantly more money to harvest in MBB with a good program. Even if you don't like basketball, it is one of the two sports within the department that has the ability to raise the tide and, along with it, all ships...including baseball.

Yee Haw!!!!!!!!!
99.9% of college sportsfans don't watch ONE PITCH of college baseball.
Plus, almost every baseball program HEMORRHAGES cash. Including LSU most years.

I wouldn't go as far to say that Wade "plans" to come back. I know that we'd definitely offer him but his love for LSU won't matter if we're not finally willing to invest into this program what he needs. His wife is also from NC so that adds another layer there.

"investing" is different than what it was when he was here previously. Then, it was looking to the school to build a practice facility, etc. Now, it's NIL...and that doesn't come "from the school". It comes from the donors. And to get that money means the HC has to go out and work for it (less so in football). Johnson is well supported because he works those relationships. Same for Mulkey. "LSU" is not giving her "loads of money" that they are withholding from the men's program. She goes out an gets it. Mulkey does all of the glad-handing shite McMahon doesn't want to do. At best, he sends David Patrick to do it.
Wade will go out and get the investment from the donors. How do we know that? Because he did it already once at LSU. Again, where do you think the money for the "strong arse offers" was coming from? That was just "NIL" before it had a legal name.
It will take a unified front from the donors to try to get him back. The salary at NC State won't be a significant hurdle. ACC coaches make dick relative to the SEC. Using last year's numbers of the top 30 highest paid HCs, TEN (10) were in the SEC...3 were in the ACC. The last one being NC State's former HC (who was #30 on the list). LSU could offer Wade what Mississippi State is paying Jans and it would be a (nearly) $1.5M raise from what Wade is making at NC State.
