Elite - No, I'm not sure LSU has ever been "elite".

LSU is a top 15 performer and it’s not ticking upwards

For the most part, yes. BUT, it all depends on how far back you go.

This season, no.
BK tenure, no.
Last ten years, yes.
Last twenty five years, yes.
All time, yes.

Arguably top five in the last 25 years. I'd say top ten all time.

Elite, yes. Considering how many teams exist in college football.

College football warehouse had great metrics on this back in the day. I'll almost always default to them.

I think this is pretty accurate:

SI Top Ten Programs of all time 6.5.25

Three titles this century can only get you so far?
There are a multitude of schools that have not won three titles in the last 75 years...or ever.
Ask Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA, Penn State, North Carolina, Florida State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Iowa, Michigan State, Virginia, Missouri, Purdue, SMU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Nebraska, Colorado, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Utah, BYU, South Carolina...I could go on. LSU has played for four, won three. That is really incredible. Yes, LSU is elite. Right now, struggling, but still a Blue-Blood.

If we're being realistic and we take off our purple sunglasses, we're not an elite program anymore!

In the days when LSU was elite, teams feared us and knew they had to play perfect to beat us. Nowadays, we've become an easy win for opposing teams and we are not far away from becoming everyone's favorite HC opponent!
