For some reason there is an unofficial rule amongst NFL teams that say not to draft CBs overall #1. I don't understand why but if the 1st team to pick needs a CB then PP7 is going to be #1.

youre talkin about a team that has to play drew brees and matt ryan twice every year. yes, he's worth it.

plus he has the return factor. yea, i can see it.

LSU82BILL how many of those teams made it to the Superbowl the last couple of years. Just cause some teams throw a load of money at Cornerbacks does not mean it's a good idea. The NFL is a QB driven league. You better have a good QB or you ain't going very far.

My point was that NFL GMs think CB is a pretty important position.....right up there with QB, LT and a pass rushing DE. NFL teams also don't want to waste a #1 overall pick on a bust and the QB position has the highest propensity for that. There isn't a QB in this class that is a "can't miss" prospect. They ALL have question marks. It used to be that all the best RB's got snapped up in the 1st round. Now teams like to target RB's in the 3rd and 4th round. WR's too. I've seen 2011 mock drafts where AJ Green, Julio Jones and Mark Ingram are the only 3 RB or WR projected to go in the 1st round. While it is nice to have a Peyton Manning at QB, look at where some of the other QB's to lead there teams to Super Bowls were selected....Brady (7th Rd), Brees (2nd Rd), Warner (undrafted), Rich Gannon (4th Rd), Brad Johnson (9th Rd), Matt Hasseleck (6th Rd).

Shall I list all of the QB's taken in the 1st round in the past decade who have NOT taken their teams to a Super Bowl, are not starters, and are no longer even playing in the league? Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler, Alex Smith, Jason Campbell, Philips Rivers, JP Losman, Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, Kyle Boller, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey and Michael Vick.

Granted some of these guys haven't been in the league very long but do you see any busts in there? Meanwhile QB's like Eli Manning, Big Ben, Aaron Rodgers and Rex Grossman are 1st Round QB's who have taken their teams to Super Bowls but those teams were built around their defense.

what does this even mean?
it means they aren't worth it

ou do realize *someone* has to be the first pick, right?
no, that fact completely slipped my mind

And whatever that #1 pick signs for will be what the market (specifically the Panthers) are willing to pay for that player.
Just because they pay it and "the market demands it" (which is a bullshite reason) doesn't mean that the investment will pay off.

Given the enormous guaranteed money commanded by a #1 pick, I think PP is the most sensible pick. It sounds like Carolina may well have areas of greater need, but I am not aware of there being a truly dominant LT in the draft and I would be scared to death of giving Cam or Gabbert 1st pick money. I am not as well schooled on the DE's who are available, but just from some articles I have seen, it sounds like they have question marks. I would NOT "take a chance" with the #1 pick and PP looks about as sure fire as they get.

I don't think any player is worth the obscene cash.. but if I was drafting best player available, absolutely, he'd be worth it.

I'd take my chance on a stud DE first though

A great pass rusher is always a good first pick. But, covering receivers like Peterson will do also costs the QB time, thus making the pass rush you already have more effective. I know there are other receivers to go to with the ball, but still.

One other thing about PP7, is other than his return game and DB skills, have you guys ever seen a better tackler in college at CB? He's going to be at Bogey's at 8 tonight with Ridley, I'm going to go see how big their calves are and report back, that way we know for sure.

I think you take Peterson who is the BPA. That gives you another year to see if Clausen can cut it. If Clausen is terrible, then who cares, you get Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley (both of which are far better than any QB in this draft) in the next draft.

Not only can he play CB he could also play safety. He is also a dangerous return man and could also be used on offense. He's Devin Hester 2.0 Hes def worth a number 1 pick.
