He was a solid DC for us. Miles couldn’t figure out how to replace him actually and set our team back a bit. I knew him when he was here before. He loves coaching defense. He didn’t like the media attention being a HC brought and he wasn’t a good fit for the Nebraska fans who thought they were still in the 90s. He won’t be leaving for any other jobs now. We got one of the best possible DCs available which we were promised. There are a few other guys who would be great but they wouldn’t be here long once they got the call like our last DC got.

He is better than Aranda IMO.

I agree. He will motivate the D a hell of a lot more. He's fiery as hell. Complete opposite of Aranda.

He was let go because he's a maniac

Another positive, IMO. Orgeron has talked openly about how his style isn't for everyone and wouldn't be understood just anywhere.

In other words, a "maniac" should be able to fit into a staff headed by a guy who rips his shirt off and punches himself in the jaw on the reg.

I didn’t think LSU played good defense this year until the A&M game and after. Everything before that was average. That’s on Aranda

IMO the question should not be who's better just different because all 3 of these coaches are very good.
Some coaches are just better coordinators than head coaches. I think of coach Haslett years ago with the Saints. Great DC not so much as a HC.

He won 9 games a year at Nebraska, id argue thats far from average.

That's probably their ceiling to be honest.

But maybe he’s the best DC LSU could get

More likely that he was the only candidate that we interviewed.

Pelini is better than Aranda. Not sure about Venables. But I like this hire. Pelini > Muschamp.

LSU's defense will be be more fun to watch next year. Pelini puts a more aggressive product on the field.

After Aranda's first 2 years here, he's been really spotty. The thing is though he would make 2nd half changes that would work but overall I think Pelini will give us a better D.

I'm more worried about what will happen on the other side of the ball. Myles looked pretty good but can E keep the offense in the stratosphere like he and Brady did this year?

Would like for them to get another co-OC, two heads better than one and all that jazz. E is aggressive but Brady killed it with the red zone stuff.

Maybe E picked up a lot from Brady and can run things fine but without a Burrow on fire to execute flawless, the other DC's will have it figured out. Burrow was lightning quick and could throw accurately into tight coverage. It didn't matter if defenses figured it out. If Myles needs people wide open, it just won't work.

I would say he’s closer to a Venables than Aranda in that he has an attacking defense. Those DL attack instead of playing gap control or contain.

Do you guys not remember the huge hits our DL would get on QBs back in the Pelini days? Some were just down right nasty, Dorsey and Jackson were in QB’s nightmares.

Wasn't a stack to show the lead up to that one season...it was his entire tenure here.

I know that, I just think it's just a good statistical lead up to a natty. I am just curious to see Aranda's

I know many people were upset he left including me. Thought he did a great job. Glad he is back. Won a Natty with us.

Aranda had Top 10 defenses multiple years

What do you mean by "significant"?

When he was a DC during the same time as those two, he was better.

Until Pelini was fired at Nebraska, his career was on a much greater upward trajectory than either of them. He was thought of as a better DC and as better head coaching material.

Pelini is a very good defensive coordinator. He’s not as much as a head coach. But those are different positions. He will do very well here again.
