Man, y’all are really going to be losing y’all minds on the scoreboard Saturday night. And y’all set yourselves up for it lol. I don’t know what defense y’all been watching this year that gives this hope.

I have a feeling that the youngsters aren't seeing the field on defense because they haven't learned all of House's complicated schemes. Now that they are forced to play, I expect House will have to simplify some things, which likely means more man-to-man coverage. If that's the case, our defense will likely be better that it has been. We miss so many assignments when we play zone.

Yea Harris and Alexander didn't look great either..

Heck, it took Zy 7 games to finally turn around while covering a WR and he almost got an interception. A few balls hit him in the back or helmet this year and if would turn around a few times could have had a couple int.

Hopefully the young guns have better skills and play out of their asses Sat.

Welch is not a good tackler.

Toviano, Hughes, and Stammps will be given the opportunity to make an impact the rest of the season and set themselves up nicely for next season.

Unfortunately, I think Welch has fallen down the depth chart because of his inability to make tackles. He had a very good opening drive against Ole Miss and then got worse with every play and could not make tackles. I think the staff are going to put an emphasis on this with Welch in the offseason. He still has an opportunity to be a good corner at some point but probably not this year.

He isn’t good. That’s why he’s been a healthy scratch since then

Don’t want to bash the kid but he (Welch) looked 100% lost about 60% of the time when he actually got to play.

I disagree with this completely.

What exactly are you basing this statement on? Do you think that Kelly was intentionally holding out our best defensive backs?

The phrase
quote:

not that big of a difference
implies there is a difference and in this case a drop-off if you use incredibly easy-to-read context.

Is welch even playing? Didn't Kelly only mention sage, stamps, Hughes, toviano?

Pretty sure Kelly mentioned Welch in his press conference.

Maybe but with the guys that are out on the field we gave up historically bad numbers. All they need to do is be great on 30% of 3rd downs and we’re in business

I don't think he did. I watched his press conference to get some context around what he said about the young CBs, and I'm 99% sure he didn't mention Welch.

Also watched Greg Penn's media availability and he mentioned Stamps, Hughes and Toviano. He specifically talked about Toviano as a CB.

Complicated schemes? What defense have you been watching all year? There is NOTHING complicated about his scheme at all. It is beyond easy to figure out and 90% of the time our guys are out of position with any pre-snap motion from the offense.

Speaking of Stingley, watch for stunts played on our young CBs when they look to the coaches for guidance just before the snap.

A defense that is complicated (hard-to-learn) is likely to leave players unsure of their assignments making them tentative and out of position, which is exactly what we've been seeing.

EDT: Complicated doesn't mean good... In this case it means confusing for players.

These guys suck. It’s better you accept this than get angry Saturday like you weren’t expecting this.

I'm not worried and welcome the "new look" defensive secondary. Our starters have been terrible and I think BK puts an extreme amount of emphasis on experience. I think we'll definitely see some inexperience but we'll also see more talented players. This is actually a good game to have this problem because Bama's offense isn't as good as previous years. Milroe will miss some open WR's as he's done many times this year.
