Lack of love of the game, poorly evaluated, probably a little of both.

I think he was pretty well evaluated, HS evaluations are as much about potential as present skills. I never saw anything that suggested he was lazy, and he was a great teammate according to everyone who asked about that, those are some of the things I would expect to see if it was a love of the game issue. But it is possible that he realized after the injury that his window for parlaying football into a career had slipped by him and maybe he could feel a physical difference that he knew spelled the end of any legitimate shot at the pros.

I think he was just the typical bigger-than-everyone-else kid who was more athletic than he looked but relied on that more than technique in high school (because why wouldn't you). From what I read, he was making progress on technique when he had that awful injury and never really caught up. But still cheered on his teammates and by all accounts had a great and positive attitude.

My dad grew watermelons in the 60s and 70s. Was a good business then and still a good business today. Those long days of "pitching" melons in the summer were brutal, but they got us ready for football.

He sure was a terror back in his HS day. Destroyed everybody he came against at the camps. Nick Sabin told him personally he was going to try to flip him away from LSU.

Most fruit and veg farmers have to bring their product directly to consumers from the rural areas they grow them at

Most likely he knows someone in the business and is helping push product

I know inflation is driving everything up but it wasn’t too long ago that I was buying full-sized watermelons in the $5-$7 range. Now they are easily double that. It sucks to pay that much just to find out that you bought a mediocre melon.
