i'm going to stop responding to the stupid posts until you two answer this question
WHAT DEFENSES ARE BETTER THAN LSU TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION S.O.S., SCORING DIFFERENTIAL, ETC? you two have so far refused to answer this. all you want to do is take things out of context and look at individual performances, individual plays, "i think that was a missed assignment" etc.
let's see your ranking

That’s right Delpit, our all everything safety is maybe the worst player on the field. He can’t even run right now, he’s been hurt since game 1. Lawrence is also visibly hurt and if you go to the games you can see he and Logan struggle to get on and off the field. Fulton, another possible 1st rounder is on 1 leg, he couldn’t even outrun Trask in the Florida game. It’s amazing he’s been so good. Chassion blew a knee 9-10 months ago, he’s still in recovery for another 8 months before he’s back physically 100%. Stingley got hit in the head and twisted a knee vs Florida. He’s getting back to form now but since then isn’t close to 100%. There isn’t another top team who could have this happen and remain an elite D. It’s personnel period.

Our defense has been over 90% healthy for 6 quarters over 2 games, one vs a top 10 opponent. In those 6 quarters the D gave up 10 points.

LSU defense is ranked 18th in the country right now according to Massey ratings, a computer rating which usually is pretty good IMO. It has Ohio St. defense rated 7th, Clemson 4th, Alabama 9th, Georgia 1st, Utah 2nd, Auburn 5th, Florida 6th.

not sure how that fits in ya'lls argument, if at all, but thought I would put it out there.

The defense would have to get worse next season, and then worse again the next before it's even up for debate.

False narrative they haven’t gotten worse every year. Last year gave up more yards because the offense stunk and had them out on the field allday plus we had a 7OT game. Yards per play went down from 17 to last season, that’s improvement not regression.

Defense did play well, plenty of what seems like one off mistakes by players and coaches.
The coaches were mostly responsible for 2 big play TDs, both on Stingly...Bama’s 1st offensive TD and last TD.
60 yards over Stingly when the coaches were talking to him from the sideline, had his head turned around, Bama hiked when he wasn’t looking, and went over his head. He never had a chance. (Of course, he could have ignored them and paid attention to the play but he’s a Freshman and his coaches are talking to him. He’s going to listen.)
85 yards on him, lined up one on one, just over a minute to play, up by 2 TDs, and no help over the top for some reason. No idea why that’s the play call with 1:00 left. Easiest chance for a quick strike TD is a one on one fly route (however good the CB is...which is very good, but still a tough spot for a Freshman)
Maybe someone else blew an assignment but it looks he was in one on one and just got outrun with a perfect ball.
That’s 2 plays, 145 yards, and 2 TDs in 20 seconds for Tua in a game that isn’t anywhere near as close without those two unfortunate plays.
But...we still won! Give up those plays to them in the past and we get blown out. We are good enough to beat anyone and if the Defense cuts out the big plays, it wouldn’t even be close.

Maybe they're a little bit over rated?
Too many people sniffing their own farts on the recruiting board IMO.
Production is what matters. You are what you do.
If you don't pressure QBs and can't beat a 1 on 1 block consistently, you're not a top shelf DL.
Simple.
We have no Jarvis Green, Gabe Northern, Chad Lavalais, or Dorsey. Hell we don't even have a Chuck Wiley (is that his son, Chuck Wiley Jr, playing DL for OM?).
Yes, help is needed on the DL. Real NFL talent if we expect LSU to field elite defenses as they have many times in the past.
LSU does have NFL talent all over the field but not DL this year.
Chaisson is a good solid player, but again, he's no Gabe Northern or Jarvis Green.

these fire aranda responses aged well.

quote:so that proves my point. there is only team in front of lsu in that ranking despite lsu being 18 for defense. meaning, when all things are taken into account (s.o.s., scoring differential, etc), lsu's defense is complementing the offense quite well. better than everyone else in the country other than osu who, btw, just gave up yards and points to a pretty blah 3 loss team that is about to fire their coach.

my point - start playing some good teams and their numbers would go down pushing lsu's numbers up. not sure why certain landscapers are having such a hard time with this concept
