Baker is a lock to be tulane’s next coach
heard from some podcast yesterday that the thought is that Tulane doesn't want a guy who hasn't had head coach experience. Remember Tulane hired Willie Fritz after his accomplishments at Sam Houston St and Georgia Southern. They hired Sumrall after his accomplishments at Troy. I believe they are going to do what has made them successful, and hire a head coach from a smaller school than them. More than likely a southern school. Im thinking of a guy tlike Charles Huff. Or, looking for offense, they could just go after WKU Helton.

He would take a pay cut…

He would make more at Tulane. 500k to 1 mil more. Plus it would be a longer contract with a buyout if he is fired.

He’s not keeping baker. Probably watched for the last 2 years we can’t stop a running quarterback.

Every time we fire a HC people always want to handcufff the new coach with a staff holdover. Why? If we are going to pay someone $10M a year they should be able to hire who they want.

If you don’t trust them then don’t hire them.

Yes. Look at Perkins there, he is constantly fooled to go too far to one side. Most of the big plays against running QBs has this same theme.

Remember the "double spy" play where both LBs ended up on the same side?

For as athletic as Perkins is, it is so easy to get him out of position.

I listen to the College Football Enquirer podcast with Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey on my commute, and Godfrey (who graduated from Ole Miss) says he's hearing there is a fissure with Ole Miss' current staff; some are ready to follow Kiffin to LSU (or elsewhere) and some want to focus on the playoff drive. It will be interesting to see; maybe Goulding wants to stay behind for the playoff run, so Baker would be more likely in that instance? I also wonder which camp Charlie Weis, Jr. might be in.

It's going to be so interesting to see how this shakes out...

Regarding this “running qb” issue-
Much of that falls on Harold Perkins and his inability to be where he is supposed to be. Despite his immense physical talent his football mentality is on the lower end of the scale, especially for someone who has had as many repetitions as he has.

Do you think that’s how Blaker designed that? Or could it be that with some key injuries and the season’s goals out of reach

That was a 0-0 game with 2 loss LSzu still a playoff contender if they run it out.

When you’ve got 3 to 4 guys out of position like that, that’s not a player problem that’s a scheme problem.

Is Kiffin keeping him around?

?? Why do we assume a new coach automatically wants to keep a current coordinator who has a degree of success? I hope our next coach has a staff which works awesome, together.

That’s exactly why I asked that question. IMO when making a big hire, you can’t ask a guy like Kiffin to keep certain coaches. You just have to hope he does.

Fine with me but I predict Baker to Tulane.

I have never been a Harold Perkins fan...looks great running around the field but out of position way too much...bad football instincts. Having said that, I always wonder where the LBers are on those long QB runs. They are NEVER even in the picture. The QB should at least have to dodge a LB but no one is ever even around.

Once Weeks got hurt, the LBs, especially Perkins, were very easy to get out of position with a little eye candy.

Perkins must be very frustrating to coach, as he is ultra talented, but his instincts are so bad. He makes the big play on occasion, but cannot seem to make the routine play consistently.

I agree about Perkins but West Weeks seems pretty football saavy to me like his brother. He isn't as fast but I don't see him getting fooled much. Perkins is definitely a sucker for fakes, eye candy, etc. The other liability of Perkins is his tackling I have been saying for years now. Even when Perkins gets into the backfield for example, what I hope for is he harasses the QB or other ball carrier enough so that someone else can "clean it up". Perkins not only hasn't developed football instincts but he never got stronger either.

Agree with this, but Perkins seems to not listen to West. Whit is the leader who can seem to get Perkins to stay disciplined (as much as he can).

That puts us in 3-4 D next year or really a 3-3-5. I firmly believe LSU is a 4-3 style team.

Where does Perk and Whit fit here?
