Just an FYI - Labor Day weekend is Southern Decadence in New Orleans.

Good point

OP southern decadence is a huge gay fest that many of these posters will be attending instead of the game. Look into booking a room uptown on St. Charles or at least CBD/Warehouse dist. If you’re a Christian avoid the French quarter that weekend.

As for BBQ, lots of good options in Nola. The best food you’ll find in BR for a game night will be at a tailgate. Some of your cooler rant guys would probably be more than happy hosting you and your family for some jambalaya.

Leaving tiger stadium following Ga Southern shouldn’t be a huge traffic problem—most of our fans leave these games at halftime.

First step - find a time machine. A game at Tiger Stadium is no longer bucket list worthy. Maybe the new AD can change that.

Why the heck is a Clemson fan making comments about OUR AD? Girl, don't y'all have Clemson boards you can troll on?

Come early and leave late. Louisiana BBQ is not really a thing. Gumbo, Jambalaya, and great fried foods at most of the tailgates

New Orleans after a night game is too much for me. Stay in BR and enjoy a nice Cuban cigar after the game ~ waiting for traffic to clear.

Thanks for all the information, we will be traveling down from Eastern Kentucky and have to take advantage of the long holiday weekend so the kids don’t miss much school. We are wanting to hit the largest college football stadiums across the country with the best atmospheres.

The BBQ was just a thought, but the seafood does really sound great. I’ll also check out the other board for this information.

What about where to sit in the stadium, any recommendations? I’ve seen a lot seats down low in the end zone, but did not which you guys and gals would prefer.

and I believe there are talks of them opening up a second location in BR not far from campus.

I was not aware of this development. Very baller.

That’s great and it’s an enjoyable experience for anybody, but an opponent like GA Southern you will not ever get the true experience. Season opener and all, the tailgates will be awesome, but the true intensity and roar of the stadium will not be experienced unless it is a big game, with something on the line, against a big opponent.

OP, Chimes is a solid choice for a day of meal or night before dinner, it will be packed so expect that. This is the truth - some of the best food you will eat all weekend will be walking around tailgates and being offered samples of whatever some coonass has cooking. Look for jambalaya kettles and there will also be smoking pits everywhere with delicious samples to try. Where your teams colors if youre a UK fan, youll get ragged on a little but its all in good fun and will make you feel like a part of the atmosphere. Eat as much boudin, boudin balls, smoked sausage poboys, jambalaya, etoufee’, and anything else you can find. I would try to find a better match-up than Ga Southern but then you run the risk of not experiencing a night game if it’s primetime SEC CBS slot.

yep...I would try another weekend for the whole trip. Tiger Stadium will be hot as balls for the first couple of games and Decadence fest is not really a family oriented event (look it up).

ETA: I would not buy seats down low in the endzone, as you can't see much of anything. My reccomendation is around the middle of the lower bowl on the sidelines. No matter where you sit, east side is off limits, as the sun is in your face. Some don't like them, but my favorite seats in the house are the very low rows of the west upper deck (tiger terrace).

You should definitely try and go to the Florida game if at all possible. It will probably be a 2:30 game but you’ll still get the full Death Valley experience. Two bitter rivals that really hate each other right now and the fan bases hate each other even more so it will be very loud for that game.

Our only hope for a night game for that one is if CBS chooses Bama and Texas A&M, but I’m sure they’ll choose LSU and Florida just because of how big that game is right now

I am sure the long weekend has a part in your decision, but please reconsider. House a better opponent to truly experience Tiger stadium. Definitely not the weekend to be in NOLA. Any other weekend but southern decadence .... please !

Don’t come to south Louisiana for the BBQ. There are good places but come eat creole and Cajun.

Try to come to an SEC game. Florida may not be the most suitable time to bring 11 and 12 year old kids, or your wife for that matter. Lots of vitriol being built up recently, but man the atmosphere will be electric and campus should be incredible.

If you can get tickets in the South end zone lower bowl it is (in my opinion) a great mix of fans bordering on the line of insane but not quite drunk college kids. The fans on both sideline lower bowl MAY be a lot more reserved (old farts that don’t get loud nor want you to get loud) and you may not get the full experience.

Walk around campus at least 5 hours before a night time SEC kickoff and be sure to approach random tailgates and explain who you are. You will be greeted with more food than you can eat, but don’t be a complete leach and bring your own beer.

New Orleans is a big city and there is a lot to do not involved with the decadence festival, but I would honestly avoid going into the city and especially the quarter with preteens for that weekend. Just my opinion.

Southern Decadence is not a deal killer unless the OP was planning to bring the kids to Bourbon Street. There are plenty of areas to stay in Nola and things to do that will not bring them in the path of the festival garbage
