You have to admit there's not much urbane about the south.
P.S. LSU baseball recruits nationally.

Wow, sounds like our outfield defense will be outstanding at all 3 positions, which is rare to find in college baseball.
FWIW, I hear LSU fans say this every year about our outfield. Its either that or a, "when was the last time we had an outfield this fast?"

I can see Dishon and Landry platooning based on RH-LH pitching. This is a great problem to have IMO Leon needs to groove his swing to be more of a contact line drive hitter to all fields.Last years power display early on got him out of sorts and sat down.

all this hype about watkins is based on practices...lol...i hope he is good but the starting line up for the first game will not be the line up for the sec....always changes...i see a line up that could be in for high expectations when the hitting line up isnt tested yet....i see good pitching but the defense and hitting isnt tested yet....as far as im concerned lsu has to prove they can even be in the top three in the sec first much less win a regional....

lsuE dont mean squat.....this is the bottom line...
2B DJ LeMahieu (.348, 5 HR, 43 RBI)...GONE
LF Ryan Schimpf (.336, 22 HR, 68 RBI)...GONE
DH Blake Dean (.332, 17 HR, 70 RBI)
1B Sean Ochinko (.323, 8 HR, 54 RBI)...GONE
RF Jared Mitchell (.329, 10 HR, 47 RBI)...GONE
CF Mikie Mahtook (.319, 7 HR, 37 RBI)
C Micah Gibbs (.291, 6 HR, 42 RBI)
3B Derek Helenihi (.265, 4 HR, 22 RBI)...GONE
SS Austin Nola (.239, 3 HR, 17 RBI)
one solid hitter back and dean is good but not all by himself....mahtook will have a much tougher year without the power that was in ront of him...shuck most picthers were demoralized by the time mahtok got them and he recieved alot of benefitted situtations....this year for him will be much harder as they will focus much harder on him.....
and watkins never played sec comp yet.......so yes they basing it off lsuE picking on h.s. caliber teams...lol...or on hispractice ability..
lsu has alot to prove and will not start off great like many are anticipating......so how about letting then get there workin before you put pressure on an untested hitting line up which i think will have to get much needed experience(like a whole year together) before you call them great....
it will take special players with exp. to replace Helenihi and LeMahieu at 3rd and 2nd...they were special....lsu dont get those kind to often.....there is no one to take Schimpf's place either on this team....
this team is a year away at best.....

I based mine on the intrasquads

Dude, we won the national title, this isn't a program that will shy away from pressure. PM said when he got here that he embraces those expectations. I don't think I called them a great team anyway.
Watkins is about as sure a bet to be good as is anyone else. LSUE isn't a slouch.

Mainieri recruited Watkins, observed the team during the fall and decided Watkins at Center, Landry at Left and Mahtook at Right was the best outfield at this point. Since Mainieri forgets more about baseball while he's sleeping than any ranter will ever know, I'll go with Mainieri.

Helenihi and "special" do not belong in the same sentence.
and you aren't taking into affect how good we recruit and how some players will improve.
Mahtook was a FR. He had a pretty good year. He is projected to be a middle of the lineup hitter as early as next year.
Nola(also a FR) wont hit anywhere near .230 Actually, im going to go out on a limb and say he will be one of our top hitters average-wise next year.
Hanover(FR) will only get better. These are our leaders for the next 2-3 years.
All started as a FR on a national title team. They are the real deal. They will get better and will hit the ground running.
as for Watkins, he may not be in the lineup to start the season. He may never crack the lineup all year, who knows. But we'll be ok because whoever we throw out there can play baseball

one solid hitter back and dean is good but not all by himself....
First off, there's more than one solid hitter back (Gibbs, Dean, and Mahtook). Secondly, I certainly expect Nola's offense to greatly improve as most players blossom offensively in their second year. Third, Gaudet is back in the lineup.
that's five solid hitters right there, and we haven't even touched on Landry yet, or any of last year's role players.
I don't see how you can look at this returning lienup and think it will likely disappoint. Sure, it's possible, but most teams have to replace a lot of talent each year (LSU last season was an aberration). the lineup looks pretty strong based on the returning players and the incoming talent.
The pitching, OTOH, makes me nervous.
