Yeah, that Rugg kid was lights out for SLU

Well Kentucky had the best 3 starting pitchers ever, so we couldn't score alot of runs. Then Nicholls threw 8 guys in 9 innings, so we couldn't get our timing. Then Tennessee had a lefty throwing 90 mph on Sunday, so that's hard to hit. Now SLU has a reliever that was simply lights out, so you can't really expect to score runs there.

When does it end??

Before I get labeled as a negatiger, I'm just pointing out that this team is not playing up to its capabilities. I am not saying that this team has no chance to win. I'm just of the belief that this team should have winning the SEC as a goal, and dropping 2 out of 3 to Tennessee was a big setback. The cheerleaders can say that winning 2 out of 3 every weekend is great, but we beat UGA 2 out of 3, and yet they are 2 games ahead of us. We beat Ole Miss 2 out of 3 and they are tied with us. Other teams are getting sweeps, and this team is not.

This team is hitting the ball a lot better now than it was earlier in the year. You are missing the boat if you don't see that.

To be honest, pitching is a much bigger concern (as strange as it sounds). We have 2 great starters, a decent starter, and a very good closer. That's pretty much it. Everyone else has been hit hard consistently. A guy like Matulis is going to have to step up, and another vet is going to have to start giving quality innings. If that doesn't happen, we've got real problems.

Offensively, we are almost where we need to be.

why don't we try and get more righthanded batters in against the strong left hand pitchers.
The pros do it most of the time, especially if their left handed batters are struggling..
Also where would this team be without the freshmen??

Shimpf, Hanover, and Mahtook have stayed consistent. Who else is swinging well now?

Ochinko and LeMahieu are batting well. So 6 of 9 are doing well.

Really, the only weak link in the lineup right now is Landry when he plays and Gibbs. We might have taken care of the Landry problem with Nola, and Gibbs is just gonna have to hit out of it. Hitting really isn't our problem. Our pitching depth is. We have 2 good starters, and a good closer, that's it. So we struggle in midweek games.

A bigger way to look at this is that the NCAA rule changes have put some really good players in smaller program schools. Everyone is playing more games in a shorter period. This is the equalizer that the NCAA coaches wanted- Including PM. The NCAA allowed transfers until December 07. So the good kids that got hammered on the Roster reduction side are showing up in the smaller schools. The next influx will be really strong JUCO influence into these programs because of the the Roster size implications. How does this affect LSU hitting? High level D1 pitching is now seen in lower level programs. Plus LSU often see's the best. 90 with movement or an effective splitter is bad for hitting regardless of what level of team they are on.

As for mid-week games only:

March 17 Northwestern La. 2-1
March 18 McNeese 6-3
March 24 Harvard 4-3
March 25 Harvard 10-2 (remember they had a team ERA in double digits)
April 8 Grambling 8-4
April 15 Nicholls 3-1
April 21 Southeastern 6-5

Not a pitching problem. Where are the bats? Other teams aren't throwing their best guys either.

Our approach at the plate is awful!! No adjustments whatsoever from Pitcher to Pitcher and with two strikes. Most all of the players take the same stance and swing with two strikes as they do with none!!

I have seen all season taking pitches right down the middle then swinging wildly at pitches in the dirt. We need a hitting coach bad. Tried of seeing the same misstakes over and over..

then we ran into some pretty good pitching the last few innings

you're right about that. i just watched the replay and Rug (Rugg? don't know how his name is spelled) was in the zone. apparently, he has been hittable previously, but last night, he was tough...
