Jones makes a million plus.
If he won more he'd be given s raise. He hasn't. He hasn't won anywhere. If he had he would be paid.
He got a 400K raise after early lukewarm success. That put his salary at 1.5 million per.
Do you think he should be paid more?

What's wrong with trying to be great in ALL our sports? I understand football is the money maker, but to say they don't care is just dumb.
Caring is not the problem, it's an AD that has no backbone and is always easily influenced to make the wrong hire.
I hope CJJ and the basketball team can turn it around, but I just don't see that happening under CJJ. There's no coaching that goes on in game and although bball is a lot easier to hide poor coaching with great players, we don't even have a coach that can do good things with good talent. And with FKing and Alleva running things, I don't have any faith that Alleva could make a big "splash" hire, that would breath energy and excitement back in our program.
Until the day comes where we can hire a great head coach, this will be the norm. And it's sad because we have a lot of talent around us in state, along with history and tradition in our bball program, but who would want to come play for someone that doesn't coach you up?
ETA - I bet you some coaches dream about things they can do with some of the talent LSU has had during Jones' tenure. Great coaches can take average players and make them good and can also run plays that gets the best players the ball, which has been severely lacking under Jones (set plays that is).

From top to bottom there doesn't seem to be much of a push for excellence in our athletic department.
We have some sports that are excelling, but too many appear to be just going through the motions.

If you look at it rationally of the few hundred folks who really care about LSU basketball about 20 of them post here and 18 of those are furious about the product....and they should be IMHO.
But the 18 folks here ain't enough to move the needle. Not enough people care, and certainly not enough of the folks who can make a difference.

"Millions" isn't that much when you're talking about college athletic facility improvements. Our facilities are still not that great, which is significant considering how recently we upgraded.

What could the administration do besides hire a good coach?
Hire a coach on the basis of how good he is rather than whether he's approved by Collis and Dale? LSU has simply given the basketball program to a small cadre of alum and a former coach to do with as they please and with no accountability for results.

The idea that fans have any influence over big time college athletics is laughable. It doesn't matter if it is 18, 180 or 18,000. Now Boosters who contribute big money matter.
The money in basketball is not in local attendance at the PMAC. It is television money which goes up by leaps and bounds the farther you advance in the tournaments. Thus the huge emphasis on tournaments.
If an AD is looking at this strictly as the CEO of a corporation, then he is weighing the cost of the basketball program vs the revenue stream. So, again strictly from a financial standpoint, does firing Jones and spending two or three times as much for a coach realistically mean a better revenue base as the team makes tournaments and advances?
Despite what so many of you think, there is no guarantee that a new coach with a resume which includes going to tournaments will translate to that here. All you have to say is the words Trent Johnson to prove that. So it is a big gamble.
All of that said, from a non financial viewpoint I think it is time to change coaches (bearing a miracle turnaround this season) because now you are starting to eat at the very reputation of the University. Humiliations on national tv have to stop.
We should at least be able to hold our heads up and say we competed at a high level even if that doesn't translate to final fours.

Can we finally dispel the notion that LSU doesn't care about basketball? Look at this board today. People are furious over our team getting smoked by wake forest.
I think you need to look more realistically at this Lake.
Of the hundreds or more who opine on this board you have a handful who truly care about LSU hoops and in the aftermath of a game they make their opinions known for good or bad.
And they post and yes it gives the impression that there is a groundswell.
But in reality, out in the real world the apathy is overwhelming.
I'll give you an example. I'd say the last 6 or 7 years, I'll at times go to a local sports bar in town to watch a game when we are on the road and have a couple of beers. And I'd say more times than not when the game starts not a single t.v. is on the LSU game, even for SEC games.
I have to ask the bartender to put the game on. And often get responses like, Oh, is LSU playing? Or, what there's a baseball game on today? What channel?
And this is at Baton Rouge sports bars mind you.
I've given up on trying to get folks to go to games with me. Friends who used to go with me back in college just simply are not interested and have no idea who any of the players on the team are, and don't care.
It is sad, but it's a reality.

I think if you read what I actually posted, I specifically said people who matter, effectively agreeing with what you said above...you have called them boosters who contribute big money and I agree...they do matter and are listened to. They were a big influence in why Les was outsted and Smoke for that matter in baseball.
In my experience, those folks still exist in hoops, I know some of them very well and they became who they are under Dale and gained much of their status therein because of Dale and there's still much loyalty there, definitely in the one's I know.
So back to my point that there ain't enough folks out there to move the needle because those of influence are largely the one's who got CJJ hired.

Absolutely not. But we get what we pay for. A bottom of the barell coach.

Basketball can be a huge money maker like it once was. Got to have the right coach, players and marketing strategy.

LSU doesn't care and neither do about 95% of the fans which is why LSU doesn't care. See the catch 22 going on there?
