Best response to his that I've seen.

How good of a recruiter is he?
Should we expect him to help us lock down Janzen? and Myles?

Me neither...but I did watch USC play Iowa as long as I could stand watching USC's offense and their defense did look good and from what everyone is saying I am now excited! We need someone to coach up the talent in the secondary; that' s the one thing I think our team has lacked since Saban left so I am very happy to see our Defense gain a D coordinator in Chavis that specializes in LB's (major need to improve LB recruiting and play) and now a coach that specializes in the secondary. I am very excited about our future fellas!

Brick Haley is in BR today. Solid staff is forming.

Just be sure the team doesnt give up on ya. We have at least 4 SC coaches who have left to other schools or been fired.. and withthe lack of effort shown in our team the last 3 games, including our star safety E.Cook who was "saving his body" and stopped going to class for the NFL and did not participate in the bowl game.. I just hope we can hire a staff that will teach our players to give a damn.

According to cfbstats.com, USC ranked #2 and #4 nationally in pass defense the past two years. Very cool, way to go Les.

Same here. Half the problem with LSU's defense this year was the inability of our defensive coaches to properly motivate a group of immature players to play with disciplined passion rather than reckless abandon.

Chavis' players at UT absolutely loved the guy, they'll play hard for him at LSU

what about his recruiting ability?

And wow, this says a lot about working with Spurrier
This doesn't say anything about Spurrier. The fact is that there is always a tremendous amount of turnover on college coaching staffs. Hell, Saban seemed to replace half of his staff every year (Might be a bad analogy b/c Saban is a miserable person that many people can't stand to be around).

You read it wrong...
$300 a year for 3 years > $175 a year
$300 a year for 3 years > $175 a year

The posters on the SC board seem to think he is an excellent recruiter. Several are concerned that they will lose recruits because of this.

i love this quote from a USCe fan:
man it sucks to be them

In all, we've had 3 out of 4 winning seasons since he arrived with 7 wins or more in each of them..Not too many division I schools can make that claim. Hopefully we put a few more pieces in place

If you go to our boards the fanbase is split on Spurriers future. Some naturally want to give him more time because despite our woes and the end of 3/4 of his seasons here he still has had more success than any other SC coaches.
But with this a smidge of mediocre success comes more pressure to at least start getting 8-9 wins a year. and in Spurriers 1st 2 years he had 15 wins.. in his last 2 he has had 13.. many feel that he we appreciate what he has done here but he has hit a brick wall and we need someone else to finish what he has started.
That and with his 1-3 record to Clemson and the lack of care he has shown to losing to them.. he is indeed starting to get pressured from the fans. Of course we wont fire him unless he retires because we'd get bashed from everyone source of media if we ever did.

As for that stat that goes along with, particulary in '07, with having such a bad run defense.

Honestly, I don't think you would. After 4 yrs South Carolina has just run in place. I think outsiders would understand.

After searching thier board and reading the thread on Cooper, I could not find one negative comment about the guy. They were all pretty positive. And remember he got 5 star safety Holloman to commit after decomitting from clemson! I think it is an excellent hire...
