Most LSU fans are retarded... If LSU would be winning all of their games no one would have anything bad to say about any of our players... BUT, since we have lost some games here lately everyone seems to go straight to saying someone sucks or blah blah...
I saw a few people comment on McCray being beat by Percy Harvin... The same Percy Harvin who just won ROY in the NFL and did that to everyone... The expectations some people have on these kids are unreal. Everyone expects to get Corey Webster and Laron Landry every year and that's foolish.
On a defense that has looked lost the past 2 years I'm really suprised some of you people even remotely bash any of these players... Any one of these guys could have gone to another school and been an outright star... But, a scheme here, new D coordinator here, an X factor there always seems to do more for a reputation than anything good a player can do.

At least the past two years, if not prior.
Pretty sure Chad Jones played safety last year and Curtis Taylor the year before. Again I ask has he ever started a full year at Free Safety...his natural position?

why are people laughing saying McCray might get drafted late but think Al Woods can be a 2nd or 3rd round pick???
I never said what round.
quote:
Al Woods played on skates and was routinely pushed backwards year after year
Due to being in the wrong system. He is too tall to take on double teams all game from a shorter center who will easily be under his pad level.
quote:
WIth that being said, he will be drafted because of his body type and his workouts.
yet people laugh when they say McCray may do the same.
Two different positions. All DB's have to cover and tackle. Neither his strong suit. In a 3-4 Woods will be matched up with guys his size, he is more athletic than them and prolly stronger. This is called a mismatch. Follow me now. When there is a mismatch, it creates an advantage for someone. Woods in this case.
quote:
as far as playing in a 3-4, he is going to have to play DE in that defense. He isnt an anchor-type, so he wont be great in the middle
I would assume in a 3-4 the anchor is in the middle, right? So, by going with what you have said, this shouldnt be a problem if he is at end.
quote:
he's a 4 year letterman who has played a lot of football. He just doesnt have a highlight reel cause he never made plays.
Not alot. Again, system. We will see come draft day. I have a feeling that I will be right

See people when they think about Danny Mccray all they remember was how he got burnt all the time. Truth is its way exaggerated yes he was burnt a few times but people make it seem like it was every play.
The truth is he was burned more than any DB I can remember recently for LSU, there's a reason most folks talk more about him than anyone else - he got burned the most. Whether it be in coverage or missing a tackle.
quote:
Secondly he was out of position and was asked to cover guys he had no business covering. If you take Glenn Dorsey and move him to linebacker pretty sure he would not have gotten drafted. Thats just one example. Sh*t take John Lynch and turn him into a cover corner. The point is he would be a horrible cover corner but he was an all pro safety.
For the second or third time, HE PLAYED A GOOD DEAL OF SAFETY TOO.

I always love the complaint about him not being able to cover percy harvin one on one. The better question is who in the hell can cover Percy Harvin one on one? Champ Bailey? Probably not anymore.

right about what??
im saying Woods, like McCray, wasnt overly productive at LSU, but because of their workouts both of their stocks could be vaulted up.
you are saying the only holds true for Woods, not McCray.
Woods was playing out of position??? Yea, he should have been an OL.
if he plays to high at DT, he will be too high at DE. Not to mention he isnt explosive off the ball.

But he didnt get burned at safety. He got burned when he was nickel covering mostly the slot receiver who is probably the quickest and fastest guy on the field.
And he is not a bad tackler. People would say he was a liability in coverage bc he had a tacklers mentality.

Yes, Woods is a 4 year letterman, but he never got the PT. His junior year they never let him play, and then he had the ankle injury. He must have done something right in his first two years, because the scouts were VERY HIGH on him! Some people around the LSU program say he didn't see the field, because if he left after his junior year there would be NO depth at his position. Whether or not that is true I will never know. I think it is telling when miles walks up to you at the end of the year and says you should have been the starter all year! Kind of makes a person wonder what is really going on. I think Haley helped turn things around for Woods this year. He did have 30 tackles, which isn't bad for a kid that takes on a double team most plays. I would like to see him shed the blocker more, but then again, I am not there to hear what the coach is telling him to do!!

Tell me this, who did he cover? What is his strong suit? What did he do in a game to make you think that he will make a good pro?
The same answers can be associated with Woods and the answers would probably be the same. Its just my opinion that due to Woods numbers someone will take a chance on him. DB's that run 4.4 are a dime a dozen. Dlinemen who have a 37' vertical and are 300lbs solid muscle are not. All Im sayin

Now I'm convinced you never watched LSU football recently.

LOL, how many times did he whiff on tackles on 2008 that ended up being a big gain? Way too often.

I never said he would make a good pro. All I said was people talked shite about him way too much on this website when the poor guy was out of position almost his entire career.
IMO he is a good tackler and a smart football player. He was not getting burnt at safety. He is obvioulsy big enough and fast enough for the NFL.

yes, because he was a 5 star recruit out of high school.

meh. people think because he is big that he takes on double teams and will automatically be some kind of anchor in the middle of an NFL defense.

McCray will not be drafted in the late rounds, Woods will be drafted.

But the vault wont be enough for McCray

Yes

Not true. Average center height < average Offensive Tackle height.

Tell me this... Why can't you just be happy for the guy and think maybe for a second that he may have been used wrong or just had some bad luck on his side... On a team like LSU to have NO ONE but Patrick Peterson really excel and still be treated as a God you can make a claim that it could have something to do with coaching...
You're right, he did get beat a few times... He never made 10 INTs a season and never laid any licks on guys like LaRon did... So lets just say he sucked and take away anything the guy does do that can make some NFL scouts take a chance on him.

This is true. But, you gotta show some kinda something to be noticed. He only got noticed for one thing, toast.

Yes, with good character

Laron cant cover in the league, you think McCray can. He will have to cover people. He would make Bullocks look live deion.

Yes, he made bad recollections of Hookfin pop into my brain.

I do think this. I absolutely hope Im wrong. I have no personal problem with him and I wish him all the best. This discussion is about if he will be drafted and why/why not.

I am really not meaning to do that. I am just giving my opinion on what I think his future will be. Its just my opinion and really means nothing at all in the whole grand scheme of things

Look he probably will not get drafted but after his pro day results I will bet you that he makes a team in free agency.
Thing is everybody on here is suprised that Danny Mccray is having such good pro day results bc everyone probably thought he was the worst db ever. My agruement is, when he played his natural position he wasnt all that bad.
Posted on 3/15/10 at 3:44 pm to Chuck U Farley
I hear ya, and I see what you see... But, when I saw his numbers the first thing I thought of is maybe he can get drafted and add one more LSU player on that list... His numbers just showed me that he had the ability to be something but just didnt pan out for some reason... I hope it happens... He's a good kid with alot of heart.
