Letting Lee throw the ball in OT against Alabama.

Josh Booty audibling into an out pattern that was intercepted at the end of the UAB game Saban's first year. It led to the game-winning FG. Saban wanted to strangle him.

In 2007 LSU vs Arkansas...Pelini basically afraid of allowing Arkansas the big plays by Ark RB he plays sad defense which gives up the big plays...I think it was Early Doucet who lined up wrong, and called back a touchdown, end result....overtime...where in the 3 OT only needing 3 yards, and Hester averaging like 5 yds a carry and was our heart all season we decide to throw the ball...dumb game over all

Final seconds against Iowa and the DBs were completely lost on a Iowa miracle play. Alls they had to do was make a tackle and play prevent but couldn't even do that...Saban's final game. Remember a player telling Saban in that game, "frick you, you're not our coach anymore".

Yep. The Defense was supposed to win that game. Shame on them.

Les Miles first game as LSU coach, having Chris JAckson fake the punt inside our own 10 against Arizona State while we were losing...luckily we made it.
+1
I'm not a big fan of the trick play.

2. Dinardo, or Morris Watts, having Herb Tyler pass (incomplete)on 3rd and 3 against Auburn in '97. Cecil Collins was gaining at will that night and if we make that 1st down we can run out the clock. Lost 31-28.
as far as one play goes, I can't think of one any worse than this...

that was a hot read, not a called play

Les Miles burning two time outs at once against Alabama. One was called and the other was with a challenge. Although, I don't think this affected the outcome of the OT loss. I can't hold it against him though. The call for challenge was late coming from the booth. It was a tough situation.

keeping Mauck in the game as QB up 36-7 in the 4th vs Florida in 2002 instead of letting some backups get some much needed work.

Why even call another pass play when Charles Scott and every other LSU back is ripping off 5 yards a carrie because Bama's defense is wasted. Talk about letting Saban off the hook.

deuce985,
Where did you hear about this quote? Curious. Never heard of that before. Fill me in on what you know.

Dumbest Plays
1988 vs. Ohio State in the Shoe. Buckeyes out of timeouts, under 2 minutes to go, we lead by 6, facing 3rd and long at about our 30 or so. First mistake: we call a pass play. Second mistake: Hodson gets pressure and throws the ball away to avoid the sack, but also stopping the clock. Third mistake: We negate whatever field position advantage we might have gained by avoiding the sack when we take an intentional safety on 4th down instead of punting.
We end up free-kicking, they get a good return to set themselves up in good field position and throw the winning TD pass with a few seconds left.
Very frustrating.
Next example:
Pretty much any play of the 4th quarter at Auburn in 1994.
Next example:
1995 vs. Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Tied 3-3 (or maybe down 10-3, I forget), we are driving into Bama territory. Faulk on a sweep on 2nd down runs out of bounds to avoid contact 1 yard short of the first down when he easily could have gotten it. They stop us on 3rd and 1 and the drive stops.

There's different kinds of dumb:
1)losing your cool, and doing something dumb: Tyson karate chop, Alem kicking the ball
and
2)having your head up your arse, with poor game awareness: spiking the ball on 4th down, Xavier Carter putting his knee down after he crosses the goal line.
Other plays may be dubious, like passing when you should've run, or blowing coverage for whatever reason, but those are only bad in hindsight when they don't work. They are questionable decisions and maybe poor execution, but not in the same category as dumb plays.

Basically, anything that involved Tac Minor when a game was on the line.

The kick return against Georgia in 2004 when Xavier Carter caught the ball in the endzone, stepped across the goal line and took a knee on the 1. Boy that was a miserable game!

The Carter kick return is probably the worst but really not unexpected. Let's face it, he was never a mental giant and it has proven out over the years. The one that sticks out in my mind is Josh Booty trying to run over two defenders to get in the end zone at the end of the Alabama game when all he had to do was dump the ball off to an uncovered receiver in the end zone for the win. His explanation after the game had something to do with God telling him to do it.
