re: Most surprising NFL career?

I don't think it's the most surprising, but for the sake of conversation, the NFL career had by Tory James was kinda unexpected.
He was on some bad LSU teams, but got drafted in the 2nd (which I found surprising). Made a 1 pro bowl in a solid NFL career spanning 10 seasons.
One of the better NFL players to come out of the dark ages of LSU football.

Danny McCray?
I wonder if McCray's problems at LSU were more to blame on the defensive scheme. He was obviously asked to do more than he was able to, covering rb's out of the backfield was never easy for him, but we never made any adjustments and teams started exploiting it. I havent really watched him with the Cowboys, but am curious if they're using him differently.

My vote is for Ryan Clark. I had him in class at LSU and he was pretty small and didnt seem very bright. I was suprised to learn that he was the starter for LSU. And now he has a 10+ pro career and a super bowl ring. Seems to be on track to be a talking head on espn too.

Really good answer.
How can anyone say Ryan Clark? He was really good at LSU. He's been a better pro, but he was a good player here.
I'd say Eric Alexander. Back up safety and special teams player for 3 years, then a back up linebacker for a year. Signed as an UFA for New England and became a starter and won a Superbowl and played 5 years in the NFL. Not bad for a guy who couldn't crack the line up here.

McCray gets a lot of hate on this board, but he always seemed like a solid role player to me.
The correct answer from the past 10-15 years has to be Ryan Clark.
I literally do not remember him playing at LSU, and now he is one of the top safeties in the league.

It always surprised me when Dominick Davis became one of the top 10 running backs in the NFL (for a short time before injuries). He was a great returner at LSU but was a backup RB. He started several games, but only when Toefield was injured. He was a great backup and Toefield was injured often, but I don't think anybody expected him to be such a good starter in the NFL.

uhhh, Eric Alexander started every game for that nasty '03 defense. he was the 2nd leading tackler amongst the LBs, and 2nd in sacks to Lavalais. his performance that yr may have been the most surprising on the team.

How can you argue with Ryan Clark? He was a little better than average player on a pretty bad defense. Was an undersized undrafted free agent and has had one of the better careers of any former LSU players.
I swear i could say water is wet and one of you knuckleheads would try to argue with it.

I thought he was a back up and split time with somebody. Maybe Turner or someone. Oh well, I guess I just never expected him to even play in the NFL, much less have a decent career.

Kyle Williams was an All American here. He just didn't project well in the pros. The correct answer is Clark. While he was good his junior year he was really bad his senior season. His play was about as bad as Hookfin that year. People also forget Hookfin made 2nd team all sec the next year.

Really? I remember when I first heard that he was the number one projected QB in the draft and I almost spit my drink out. I know he had the talent and the arm, but everyone also knew how immature and poor his work ethic was. Now I do admit, I thought Brady Quinn was going to be legit, but apparently he had an entitled attitude and was incredibly lazy.
As for biggest surprise, I'll go with Stevan Ridley. LSU has put out tons of backs, but I would have never guessed it would be Ridley to stick and really perform the way he has so far.

Trev Faulk. I thought he'd do ok in the nfl. Sat next to him in accounting and he seemed smart.
