But this is just for Softball. Also, it discusses the integrity of the game being in question. How? It has not crossed the line yet and if you are concerned about the further development of props, then set boundaries and determine consequences, it is pretty simple.

I've heard many chants from the LSU baseball dugout and others as well.
Do we ban the Rally Possum?
What about football players standing on the bench waving towels to incite the fans to get louder? Not the same action, but same thought process as this rule.

If the NCAA wants to change anything about college softball they should worry about training and hiring decent umpires. Umpires in college softball have been disgustingly bad for years and continues to get worse. Its ruining and sucking the life out of college softball today

It's a clown show.

Wow...I think the NCAA has lost sight on a large part of what makes the growing sport of softball unique, FUN. The lively dugouts and quirkiness of the players has been a big marketing boost for the sport. Younger teams are often emulating the older ladies and the kids are having a good time playing the game.
That's what it's suppose to be right, fun? It's not like they are wearing the masks and having light saber fights in the outfield.

Yes because a football player waving a towel in excitement is the same as a preplanned routine with a horse mask and cat in the hat...hat

About time, now ban the chanting and singing.

Well, thank god the baseball team can still keep its can of corn, its stuffed monkey, its stuffed possum, etc.

Don't forget the face paint and hair bows.

Teenage girls having fun playing a game, this is what concerns the NCAA.
Meanwhile one blown call after another will be made by umpires who have no right to draw a check for their diminished talents.

Good for softball, it was getting out of hand.
That might mean ban of the rally possum for regionals.

The NCAA should not discriminate against horse-faced girls.

Lots of people who've probably never been to a LSU softball game, support LSU softball, are all of a sudden popping up here to give their opinions. Leave this to the regular softball posters -- I even think educote would agree with us.

It helps draws attention to the sport and are having more fun while doing it. I just don't see the big deal unless there have been complaints and it's now become a liability issue.

S0 stolen guns and pot and buying football players by Ole Miss and Auburn is fine? Just don't let the girls enjoy the experience. Got it! Nothing to see here, move along!

Props...chants...cheers.
I don't care what the players do in the dugout as long as:
* They are not being disrespectful to the opposing team
* They are not being disrespectful to the opposing team's fans
* They are not being off color or vulgar
* They are truly engaged in the game and what is happening on the field
Keep in mind that some of these girls in the dugout devote 4 years to the team - physically (workouts, practices, games, etc) and emotionally (won't even list those examples) - without having the opportunity to contribute by actually PLAYING on a consistent basis.
I admire the commitment of those girls tremendously. In addition, don't discount the psychological boost that the "dugout girls" give to the players on the field.
Yes....the games should be taken seriously.
Yes....all of us want the sport of softball to be taken seriously.
But at the end of the day......the girls devoting 4 years to the game they love and the team they are a part of...the girls putting in all the time and effort.... should have a say what is appropriate and what isn't.
How about we ask them instead of asking each other?

There should be a happy median between an all-out ban and the crazy stuff they are doing in the dugouts. I don't care for the costumes and masks, but let them still do the stuff that makes it fun for them to be part of a team. The NCAA should have issued something along the lines of an advisory opinion to the coaches to let them know they need to dial it back some. Not a complete ban . . . but put it on the coaches to decide what is and is not a good reflection on the team.
