Ever heard of Laron Landry? You know the true freshman who, after he became the starting safety, helped us win a national championship.
Yeah, he had to play because Ryan Clark had graduated and Damien James had left the team. We had no depth back then. Besides Jack Hunt and Norman LeJeune, your other safteys were Chad White, Adrien Mays and Travis Moses who had about as much experience as Landry at that point.

Ever heard of Michael Clayton?
Same here. We had Josh Reed and Jerel Myers his freshman year. Who was going to start in front of him? Gino Giambelluca? Chad Muller? Reginald Davis? No.

Glen Dorsey
The starters were Claude Wroten and Kyle Williams and I think Wroten got hurt his Freshman year. Dorsey was a phenominal player, but his only competition for playing time was Cole Louviere, Marlon Favorite, Brandon, Jarrod Carter and Carnell Stewart. AND he wasn't a freshman All-SEC selection.

The last freshman to make a huge impact on our season. 7 seasons ago.

Ask me how many freshman started on our NC Team in 2007.

Michael Clayton
Good example. But once again was all the way back in 2001.

Glen Dorsey, Drake Nevis, Early Doucet, Chevis Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, Buster Davis, Trev Faulk, Brady James?
- Dorsey had 18 tackles his freshman year
- Drake Nevis had 17 tackles his freshman year
- Early Doucet had 18 catches for 257 yards his freshman year
- Chevis Jackson had 5 tackles and 3 passes defended his freshman year
- Dwayne Bowe had 9 catches for 106 yards his freshman year
- Craig Davis had 7 catches for 63 yards his freshman year
- Trev Faulk and Bradie James were on a 3-8 team as freshmen

Why would you want players on the freshman All-SEC list?
Only reason freshmen should play that significantly is if you didn't recruit well enough in the past.

Apparently, this has to be said once per week.
No Kidding. Maybe people should take noice 2 of the 3 teams that had the most players on the Freshman All-SEC list were the 2 worst teams in the conference.

Or if they're good enough to help lead your team to 12-0 (8-0 SEC)
Signed,
Julio Jones 2008
Signed,
Trent Richardson 2009

Bama had no WRs last year outside of Julio. Kind of like when we were thin at safety i n2003 and Landry started.
RB is usually a position where freshman can make a good immediate impact and Richardson is a beast.
This all being said guess how many freshman started on our 2007 NC team.

I can't even think of a position on the team where a Frosh should be 1st or 2nd string. I do think Shep should have been redshirted, even though he did average 5 touches a game. That's a lot considering he was 5th on the RB depth chart and 5th at WR? He just looked a bit lost at times.

Oh shite! You're right.
You have to start to contribute. I forgot. Chad Jones (Fr) didn't make the play on JPW in the Bama game to save our 2007 season.
Trindon Holiday (Fr) didn't make THE play to win the Hog game in 2006. Nor did Keiland Williams (Fr) make big plays vs Tenn and Hogs to help us.
Laron was the only freshman to make an impact in 2003? What about a guy named Justin Vincent?
You tell me that Early didn't have an impact on the 2004 UF game?
Frosh can't see the field because of our superior strength at LSU.
You're right. Of course. I defer to you.

You have to play them. You can't get a freshmen all american when the players are sitting over there by the water cooler.

So making a play means they played significantly their freshman years?
I don't think you understand my point. My point is if yo're starting a bunch of freshmen that means you probably don't have depth mostly due to sucky recruiting (or bad luck with defections due to NFL, injuries or transfers).
And once again it's stupid to be upset we don't have players on the Freshman All-SEC team when 2 of the 3 teams that had the most players on the team were the 2 shittiest teams in the conference and are the only 2 teams in the conference not going bowling.
Would you rather we started a few freshman and went 6-6 or 7-5 instead so we can get 3 or 4 freshman on the freshman All-SEC list?
Shepard
Randle
Downs
Allen
Claiborne
All came in as true freshman and played for us this year. Shep and Randle making a decent contribution in a backup role making a few plays. It's not like we completely refuse to play freshman.

Look, the title infers that I found it "interesting" that we had a great class and not one received honors.
UF had 2 players on the team
Bama had 3
A bunch of bowl teams had a couple each, and those teams were better than expected.
The players from those teams were not necessarily starters. The all Frosh team is not about "starters."
But since you went to great lengths to disparage my original post ... bugger off.

I'm not talking about just starters but anyone who makes an impact all year long to get on the list. We happened to not have any freshmen this year make a significant impact all year. It's not a big deal so I don't know why you think it's terrible we didn't have guys on this list. We got through 2007 quite fine without starting any freshmen (true or redshirt) and only 1 freshman that year made any sort of impact in Chad Jones.
Also have to remember 2 of our 4 5-star recruits this year were injured and could not play (Davenport and Loston). If both were healthy they both would have played IMO

and Randle made some big catches against UGA and Ole Miss. There just weren't many spots on the team for freshman to come in and make impacts. Next year we will probably have a few guys on the team.

No - why you play like crap, no one gets any awards. Not hard to understand.
It's like passing the bar. That's a nice achievement, but if you want the big paycheck, you have to book at least 80 hours a week to get any respect and advance.
Rival rankings might get you a scholarship, but that's all it's going earn you. Colt was a 3 star and worked his a$$ off. Now he's a Heisman candidate. That's how it works.
When we win big we usually have a few 1st teamers
