The Nuss redshirt stuff is pretty overblown. A redshirt doesn’t have to be used in your first season. Nuss can redshirt next season. Or if he’s good enough and starts from here on out it won’t matter if he used a redshirt or not. Or if he transfers he can use his redshirt to not lose a year during his transfer
You beat me to it, but you don't even have to burn a redshirt on your first transfer anymore either.

Nuss wasted huge opportunities this year fretting over the redshirt. Could have played in the Alabama game and possibly won it. Win that game and he starts against Arkansas winning that game, cementing him as the starter for the rest of the year.

So that would be 8 games, starting 4 including the bowl game and beating Bama. That is one hell of a resume to have in case Walker Howard beat him out next year or Kelly wanted to bring in a vet QB for one year.

He needs to play this game. A non-injury redshirt is mostly useless now in the Transfer Portal era especially for a QB at a top 10-15 program like ours.

Let’s just say he were to sit to keep his redshirt but then starts the next 2 seasons and lights it up. He’ll just end up leaving after 2 seasons as a Redshirt Soph instead of a Jr. If he doesn’t light it up or gets passed up by Howard/Transfer QB/etc, he transfers out of the program anyway

CJ Stroud is a redshirt freshman. People act like he’s a true freshman. Yes there’s been true freshmen come in and play well immediately but it’s very rare

This game is meaningless to him long term outside of the opinion of people on a message board and social media. If he's being pressured to play by Davis, Kelly or anyone on the coaching staff not only would I not play, I'd enter the portal myself.

How is this game any more meaningless than the Arkansas game when he came off the bench and our record was 4-5? He plays the most important position on the team game and there isn't another player on the team whose participation in this game will have such a considerable bearing on the outcome. That "Me first" attitude you are condoning is the very culture that has produced back to back .500 seasons and needs to be eradicated.

Although cj stroud showed what a frosh could do.

CJ Stroud was also the #2 QB in his class with 3 Kayshon Boutte's catching his passes behind a top 5 OLine. It's alot easier on a QB when everyone around you is the best in their respective position.

This kid has an opportunity to have 15 bowl practice and develop major chemistry with a freshman wr core and put himself in the drivers seat as QB1 next year.

He will still have these practices even if he redshirts.

there's an entire new coaching staff coming in, and they'll probably implement a different offensive scheme.

Sure, practice helps and maybe he gets to show Brian Kelly what he can do.

But spring practice is where it will all get real, not this bowl game.

Going to college for 5 years to graduate is not exactly what most students are shooting for. There are money problems, burn out, or other factors. Nuss should play 3 more years and take his lumps. He may have a medical redshirt during that period to give him an extra year. If not, I plan on sitting back and watch our walk on QB destroy the Kansas defense.

If you follow his tiktok, someone commented on one of his videos that he should hit the transfer portal and he liked the comment.

If he is as good as advertised and develops it’s likely he will be gone in two years anyway.
Ed O screwed his eligibility up intentionally. When we fired him after the Florida win Woodward’s worst mistake as the AD was to allow him to continue coaching. I was okay with it then but looking back I believe those who wanted him gone immediately were right.

Well, he'll practice whether he decides to play or not, just probably not with the first team. The game would certainly help him, though.

Not taking #1 reps. His preparation will be completely different depending on if he’s the starter or redshirting. He needs this month and this game to show Kelly what he’s got and get a leg up on Walker Howard going into spring. If he wants to be the starting QB at LSU, he needs to play. And I think he will. He can redshirt another year if he needs to. It doesn’t have to be your 1st.

If Nuss turns down 15 practices and a bowl game on national tv……he is done at LSU. This is his chance to show his leadership and talent. Like the OP says…Nuss prolly won’t stay 4 years any way.

I know what Travis Daniels would do. “I play for the name on the front of my jersey not the back”

It made sense for him to red shirt to maximize opportunities down the road, be it at LSU or elsewhere.

Being basically the only QB available for a bowl game is pretty compelling though. I think he would probably jump at that.

. If he doesn't play it'll have to be elsewhere--and I like the young man.
Would you follow a guy next year/season who could have played in a bowl game but didn't and the only alternative was you and your team had to battle it out with a walk-on?
I thought his profile included "leadership". We'll see.
