Skip and 2009 CPM had the luxury of the original bats and baseballs that made smashing it out of the park a lot easier than today, game has changed a lot since CPM was hired

I whole-heartedly agree with ya.

...also, there's parity in the sport.

The bat excuse is bogus the national champ team last season hit 95 home runs the team we played yesterday has already hit more than 60 while Paul Manieri's teams have never hit over 51 in a season.

Lmfao what does that have to do with anything? Now a team has to hit a home run every game? How does that make CPM's offensive ineptitude any better? Sometimes posters bless us with pure comedy.

Times are indeed bad.

Skip never lost mid week games and teams no longer have to be bribed to take the field because they are so afraid of LSU. LSU's monopoly on athletes is over. For whatever reason talented players are showing up all over the place, not just at LSU. What's even worse is that these players have somehow gotten pride in their schools and their peronsal games and compete, actually COMPETE with LSU. This never happened under Skip.

The solution is to fire CPM and hire the guy out there that never loses mid-week games and always gets to Omaha, winning most the time. He is out there. I know he is and if Alleva won't go after him we are perpetually doomed.

I love to hear how the bats aren't the same, then you watch a team come in and Mash the old fashion way. Mainieri prefers speed to power, had to find power hitters that weigh 170lbs.

How did it translate at the box is the more important question.

I watched the SEC Storied on Warren Morris just now which brought me to tears. At the end I said out loud that we will never have that feeling again as an LSU fan. The dominance Bergman brought was a thing of beauty that can't be replicated. It was an era that we took for granted sometimes. Smoke and Maneiri have both had exciting teams and many Omaha teams but the dominance isn't there. And that's ok but I miss it.

It burnt down with Stony Brook and Houston, and then Coastal Carolina pissed on the ashes.

Though it sucks, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter LSU loses midweek games. The NCAA isn't going to withhold LSU from hosting a regional because they lost to inferior opponents on Tuesday nights. What they will see is how LSU finishes SEC play. For being as mediocre as you can get this season, LSU still is the #3 overall team in the SEC. It's no excuse to be losing to McNeese and South Alabama but they circle this game on their calendar like it's Game 7 in the World Series. I'm sure the players could give a rats arse they're playing South Alabama.

Have ye little faith. Teams play different when it comes to post season.

Just have to finish 20-10 in SEC play. That's all.

Skip is gone.

He isn't coming back.

There will never be a team that dominated like LSU did in baseball. College baseball has changed.

Get over it.

Correct. Even the 1997 team, which may have been one of the best ever in College Baseball and which set a home run record that will never be broken, lost to UNO twice, Louisiana Lafayette and NE Louisiana in midweek games.

I think that you have to look at what college baseball has become.

Gone are the days when you can get a hit, a walk and a 3 run HR a couple of times a game. If you look back at what won a lot of those midweek games it was having a great offense that was going to hammer a teams 4th or 5th starter.

quote:

Maybe you are not seeing the trickle effect at LSU but I can also tell you that what you run into now with several teams is that you are catching a junior or senior on a Tuesday night that has been through it and is just composed enough to limit some damage and get out of situations with 1-2 runs scoring instead of 3-4. What you are seeing is a team that has several guys that were offered little or no money by the major schools. They have gotten experience and can catch lightning in a bottle ever so often.

This guy gets it. It is a different era of baseball, just ask Florida, who had arguably the best team in baseball on paper the last two years and nothing to show for it.
