But, the point is, why are you trying to hit and run with a guy who strikes out as often as that. It's obvious he has trouble making contact consistently.

He also has trouble bunting. So what do you do?

Let him hit. He has a hit on the night, he is also not a double play risk

Paul put the batter in a no win situation and it killed a rally.

If a football coach calls a qb sneak on 4th and 4 it will likely kill the drive.

That’s on the coach, not the player.

To use another sport, if on 4th and 4 would Coach O call for a qb sneak and then fuss at the players for not executing?

bull shite; that's an awful analogy. that ball was up and away but a decent hitter should have hit it somewhere. this team can't do shite at the plate. they are so bad that it's become expected that they will not score with runners on in virtually any circumstance. they can't bunt; they can't execute the hit and run; they can't hit behind the runner and they can't hit sac flys. they are AWFUL.

Hit and runs are called many times in that situation..sometimes they work..sometimes they don’t. But a QB sneak on 4th and 4 is never ever called.

A hit and run is a good call when you coach a team that can actually HIT.

A hit and run call is not meant to have the batter necessarily get a hit ...but you know that right?

Do some of you not realize this was a pitch out? The pitch was thrown specifically because the opponent believed we called a hit and run. Dare I say it, they had our coaches hit and run signal!!
AND, it doesn’t matter why you want to hit and run, it is NEVER a good idea to do it with a guy that swings and misses as much as Geo.

Yes, but Gio struggles mightily to hit lefties when they throw strikes. PM set him up for failure.

Agree. You need a high percentage contact hitter at the plate to take a chance with a H&R. I don't think Gio is that guy.

It's the coaches job to know the strengths and weaknesses of their players also.

Football analogy: 3rd and 8 on the opponents 40yd line. Coach 0 decides to run straight up the middle, no gain. He sends in his field goal kicker whose hit 1 of 8 from beyond 40 yds so far in the season. Field goal is no good. Ball game. So, should Coach O have expected his kicker to hit that field goal when all the data shows otherwise?
