Bad hire by an AD, he did a terrible job by not searching at all.

We treaded water this year. Same result if O or Les coaches. Different losses maybe, but 3 nonetheless. So we learned nothing yet. To be determined. But nothing indicating we are going to win the SEC any time soon.

Personally I never think O will ever be 4-8 or whatever if we continue to recruit well, not I do have major questions if he can ever take us over a 10 win mark

IMO my prediction was we would do relatively well or as expected his first two years and then we would see a slight drop in year 3

hope he proves me wrong

Better than I thought, but the league blew balls this year. Still not a fan of the hire.

I think the fact that there are people actually admitting that they can't wait to bump threads in 3 years to see who was right should tell us that it really doesn't matter what happens, he will never have the full support of the fans.

I don't agree with this. I guess it depends on your definition of "full support". I think if O can bring us an SEC title and a spot in the playoff MOST LSU fans will convert. NEVER will all LSU fans support our football coach; hell Saban didn't get that either. maybe that's true a lot of places, I don't know for sure but I have noticed that our fans are damn tough on HC's.

but make no mistake, O was hired to do what Saban did and what Miles did; both won 2 SEC titles and a natty (miles coached 2 natty games). if O doesn't deliver titles, he's a goner. I would say he gets 2 or 3 more years (assuming it doesn't fall apart). winning a title in that time (at least SEC) would buy him some more time.

no matter our differences on his hire, I believe most LSU fans will agree that's our expectations. sure some are unrealistic and want a title every year and some are more lenient and just want winning teams that are entertaining but I think most want LSU to get top program results.

I didn't so much hate the as I did the process or lack there of.

From the facts that came out it appears that only 2 candidates were interviewed. This after they fired Miles on sept 25th. That in of itself was inexcusable.

What a disingenuous question

Does it make me a bad fan to be worried that we are only 1-4 against SEC teams ranked at the end of the year since the coaching change?

Which is why seeing LSU go 1-4 against SEC teams ranked at the end of the year since he took over has me so worried.

You are SO worried because LSU lost to #1 ranked Alabama last year with an interim head coach with a TE's coach running the offense?

You are SO worried because LSU lost to #2 ranked Alabama this year on the road with a first year HC and OC with 2 true freshmen starting on the O-line?

We need to have a Venerables type that stays for his entire tenure

A tenure is only as long as you stay at one place, technically.

If you're saying that we need a DC who stays for his entire career, that's different altogether. And almost completely unheard of.

In the case of Venables, he (in all honesty) should still be at Oklahoma. Bob Stoops let him walk because he refused to hand the reins over to Venables exclusively on defense, but instead insisted that his brother Mike remain the DC. Had Venables stayed, he would have again shared co-DC duties with Mike.

Oklahoma is having a great year under Riley. But ask any OU fan and I mean any OU fan who they would prefer out of Venables or the brother Stoops. I live amongst the Sooner hordes, and I can attest with certainty that they would rather have Venables. Had Bob kept Venables and cut little brother loose, OU would likely have been in the title game at least the last two years.

As for the original subject matter on a DC staying for his full (tenure/career), we have a pretty good DC in Aranda. He allegedly has no aspirations to be a head coach, and supposedly our only threat for his services is the NFL. So as long as we pay him very handsomely and he still feels that the SEC West is a challenge, then likely we keep him indefinitely.

The truth is exactly in the middle of both of you. One is giving him too much credit and the other not enough. He can’t lose to Troy but he handled business elsewhere even if those teams didn’t end up with stellar seasons.

It was an ok season. With jury still out.

Well, if the goal is to beat Alabama and win championships, then yeah, being 0-2 against Alabama doesn’t inspire confidence.

And a home loss to an injury ravaged Florida team and 30 point loss to a MSU team that finished ranked 23 is even less encouraging.

The Auburn win, while good, doesn’t outweigh the four losses to the other ranked quality teams we played, only one of which was within one score.

And you really expected LSU to win both games vs Bama?

And the wins over Auburn and A&M? Were you discouraged after those games? Both of those wins have happened since Florida last season and MSU this season.

Nothing has changed. My concern has always been that I do not think he has what it takes to change the trajectory of this program. Nothing that transpired this year disproved that.

I believe his ceiling is what we've been under Miles the past 4 years and his floor is 6-6 type of results year in and out.

No. And I don’t next year either. Do you?

Hence, my worry that the hire didn’t make the impact needed to get us back to championship level football.

I edited to add that the Auburn win was good.

A&M was a mess with no defense and a dead man coaching. No, that wasn’t all that impressive honestly.

Yes I do. It is in Tiger stadium this coming season. LSU outgained bama in the last game and will have much better lines this time.

So your worry is predicated on your prediction? Weird.

45-21 with over 600 yards of offense is not impressive? Yeah, go ahead and worry about Eaux. If the A&M game doesn't impress you nothing will.

Everytime you post something it's negative. Did you get raped by a shemale as a child or are you just some old, bitter bastard that just doesn't have a single thing in life to be happy about?

I said before the season started that it's not year one or two that will convince me it was a good hire. Gotta see what happens when we start replacing coordinators.

I'd be saying that even if we had won it all this year.

Yeah, I think you and I are pretty consistently on the same page concerning this issue.

Nobody was worried about THIS year - it's the long-term plan and big picture that comes with this regime that freaked everyone out.

Hell I thought we had a chance to win the West and compete this year. The fact that our season was over by week 5 is damning.

I tip my cap to the team and coaches for the turnaround, but there's only so much sunshine pumping I can do when I see this board applauding O for stepping over a bar that he lowered himself in the first place.
