I love how he claims it is all about college production and when presented with the stats that show production he plays the amateur scout card and wants to talk about projectability, body type, velocity, etc.

Yeah Mainieri's opinion on different subjects has influenced my views of course.

Jonathon Papelbon was the closer at Moo State. Also, Brian Morgato will be a cloer in the Majors

That's mighty big of you considering it's impossible for any intelligent person to argue.
Of course, you have said that Ott was unproven and hadn't done anything in big games so......

I have always been talking about that stuff. You can look around page one when I was talking about intangibles.

Ott is unproven he was just riding on the wave of a championship team. But as I have said he he can duplicate his results this season I am willing to change my mind on the matter because then he will be proven.

Brain Wilson was a reliever

No, I'm pretty sure you're just confused. You are talking about different things at different times throughout the thread, it just depends on what argument is trumping your's at the time.

16 saves in one season is unproven? That's absurd.

Casey Weathers was a closer at Vandy and if it wasnt for shoulder problems would be in the majors

Read farther back I attribute his success more to Micah and the lineup we had.

yep, and he didn't even pitch until he got to JUCO, I guess he has a dead-end career too.

His career is effectively dead yes.

Umm, can you explain to me how the hitters made Ott a good closer? Obviously Gibbs had some part, but Ott is pretty fricking good.

6th overall in the NCAA last year. Obviously, he's unproven.

Joe Nathan was a SS at a D-3 college but after throwing a side session was drafted as a closer. Carlos Marmol came up as a catcher. Do you need me to keep going or do you want to go ahead and concede?

Micah was obviously responsible for the strikeouts...even though he doesn't call pitches.

I posted the list of returning career stat leaders the other day, and Ott was almost in the top 10 in saves after one season.

Micah managed the kid better than anyone could have. That is straight from the man himself Mainieri. Secondly the lineup allowed him to be in that position and also gave him the confidence tonpitch in those situations knowing that they would back him up in case he blew the save. That allowed Ott to go right after hitters.
