I think the loss of this game falls on the defensive scheme and in-game adjustments. Chip Kelly called the same play about 10 times and the results were the same every time. Our linebackers were bumping into each other they were so confused. If the defense doesn’t nut up and get coached up, we will only win a total of 4 games this year.

There was some good & some bad, but in the end it was his 3rd start of career. I think your expectations were probably not tuned appropriately

LOL. The expectation set by this board stating he was so great and had all the intangibles that Brennan lacked

The expectation set by O when he compared him to Burrow?

He had a bad game. That is undeniable. And he’s not alone. The whole team from coaches to players had a bad game.

It’s ok to admit that and hope he gets better.

He would run backwards out of a clean pocket pretty regularly. Not saying he dididn'take a hit or that the OL was playing perfect....but he was playing scared.

Brennan set a super low bar. Not sure what you are comparing it to but that’s probably your first issue here

Orgeron had not even picked a QB so it’s weird to pin it on him. I can’t deal with people that get upset over coach speak

Max is not—and never will be—a great passer of the football. He’s got a really low ceiling. And a lower floor than I had previously thought as well. This team—with all its flaws—needs a playmaker at QB. That’s not Max.

Imagine where his numbers would be if he didn’t have Boutte. I knew he was good, but I think he’s already playing as a top 5 WR in LSU history level. Right now. He’s incredible.

Brennan set a super low bar that Max can’t reach yet you still make excuses for Max and go out of your way to bash Brennan. Try being a Tiger fan for once instead of coming here to massage your own ego.

This wasn't Max's best game, but receivers were dropping passes at a dizzying pace. And the OL played so poorly that even Burrow would have been on the seat of his pants much of the game.

This is a team that's falling apart at the seams.

He missed some throws but for someone in his 3rd start as a tSoph, he had a lot going against him on Saturday.

Young WRs
A OL that couldn’t hold up
No Run game

And because they only have 2 scholarship QB’s, they had no designed runs for him.

Low ceiling is relative. But he’s never going to be an innovative, broken play-type QB that is becoming popular right now.

He’s a tall pocket passer with some scrambling mobility. He’s at his best when allowed to keep the defense on its toes with some designed run plays. And he needs some type of pocket to throw from. I think he got a little shell shocked from the blitz, but will improve there. Joe Burrow in 2018 was the same way.

When Brennan is clear we need some of those designed Burrow runs to come back

There isn’t a poster on this board that will give you a more accurate, unbiased depiction of LSU football than myself

Yep, adds a whole different dynamic to how that end & LB play.

shite, they are going to get desperate & dip into it before Brennan, I think. They will be forced to. That has to be a apart of things

Yeah let’s revisit your predictions on Kari Vincent’s draft position and NFL ability and see how accurate that was

I don’t disagree with any of that. He can be the starting QB of a very good team, maybe even a championship team. But that’s not this team. He needs pieces around him to be successful that this team just doesn’t have. He’ll certainly get better, but I’m concerned his ceiling—with THIS team—has us at 8-4.

I think you’re pretty much right over the target. Max is a nice young player with a good pedigree and understanding of how to play the position but he’s limited physically and experience wise. Like you said he needs everything around him working to be successful. What worries me about the UCLA result is that they laid out the blueprint on how to defend him. They brought the house and squatted on the underneath stuff with no fear of him beating them deep. How do we navigate such a compressed field to work with going forward? We’re gonna have to get innovative in the run game and LOS playcalling for this to work with Max.
