Preseason Jay Johnson was asked: Is there any player that stands out in his improvement and development that you believe will shine this season?
Jay had one immediate response : Arrambide !

Jay also said when catchers get worn down/beat up, it affects their offensive performance. Looks like he was right about that too a couple weeks ago

I trust Jay, but I have to admit that I had lost faith in this one. I’m sure he looked awesome in the Fall and preseason, and he looked pretty good right out of the gate, too. I figured he was just stuck in a bad slump, but some guys never break out of it and get passed up. That’s not a knock on Jay. It just happens. We’ve even seen Milam and Curiel have some rough stretches.
When Serna started hitting the ball and Braun looked good at DH last weekend, I thought Cade might be done as a regular starter. I love being proven wrong by players, though.
The way Yamin played defensively, I wonder if it wouldn’t be better for Bide to just stay at DH? He can sure hit the ball when he’s not banged up. He may be more valuable to us there this season. We’ll see.

Arrambide made some defensive progress over the season last year. I was hoping he’d continue to progress from last year. He has not made the defensive jump.
