He was a great Holy Cross Tiger and great LSU Tiger. I saw his younger brother, Jesse, play at Holy Cross; he was a defensive end who could control one side of the field. I never understood what happened to him at LSU.

Sad day in LSU football history. Billy Truax was the first Tiger player whose career I followed-- he lettered from 1961 to 1963 -- and he made SPECTACULAR plays on offense, defense and special teams, sometimes all three units within the same game. He... will be missed, bigly

Billy Truax was a great Tiger and a solid NFL tight end as well.

Was this a shoestring catch, inches off the ground?
It was a shoestring catch, it was fourth down, and it looked like LSU's drive would stall, but Cholly Mac called a pass play (turned out to be the only completion of the game for the Tigers). I was watching the play through binoculars and had an excellent view. The pass was thrown short, and Truax had to dive for it and make a miraculous catch to keep the winning drive alive.
