Blackface was something done for generations where a white actor would put on blackface and play a silly, stupid black person for laughs. Heck, I'm 51, and I was in a play in my college years that had a white actress doing exactly that.
That's why, these days, a white person wearing blackface is socially unacceptable: it's a very specific insult to black Americans.
Whiteface is not racist, because whiteface isn't a way to rub past oppression in someone face.
