You don't know that PJ. For starters who would we have hired if we didn't hire Saban? I give Saban credit for what he did at LSU. He did a great job, but he is not the only good coach in America

But he was the RIGHT fit at the time!!!

The fact is in 2003 (and 2007) LSU got some huge breaks with other teams losing that the Richt, Tubs and RRod have not.

RROD had the NC game in his own hands last year and lost to Pitt AT HOME!!! Yes Tubby should have gone to the game in 2004!! Richt has not come through in the CLUTCH!!!! BOTTOM line is that Saban put LSU in a position it hasn't been in years!!!! And Miles has kept it going!! GREAT for LSU!!! But Saban coaches Bama now!! I will not boo him!! But I hope LSU kicks there arse!!!

What's different about Richt and UGA in 2002 from Saban and LSU in 2003? They had the same record, 13-1 both lost to Florida, though UGA lost to them at a "neutral" site by 7, not by 12 at home.

The only difference is in 2002, there were 2 undefeated teams ahead of UGA. In 2003, there were no undefeated teams. So please explain to me how Saban's clutch coaching in 2003 caused USC to lose in 3OT's to Cal, or for Miami to lose to VT and Tennessee, or FSU to lose to Clemson or Hawaii to lose to Boise? All those games played a part in LSU getting to the BCS CG after losing to UF.

What poor coaching decision by Richt helped Miami and Ohio State go unbeaten in 2002.

Cltuch has Nothing to do with it PJ. If they blew a late game (like RRod last year) that cost them maybe, but they haven't. The fact is he had the same record in 2002 that the Great Saban had in 2003, he just didn't get the breaks Saban got. That's it.

I give some credit to Emmert as well. Before he got there, LSU was unwilling to pay top dollar for a good coach. That's why we could get Mack Brow in 94 and went after Sullivan and DiNardo instaed.

I always boo Bama and their coach.

Say what you want. But without Saban we have 2 less NC'S!!!!!

He didn't make LSU - LSU made him. His college head coaching record is barely 60%, if you exclude his time at LSU. If you factor in his NFL record, his overall, non-LSU winning percentage is in the 50s.

Further, he had one great year at LSU 2 really good and 2 decent to good years. The man is a one year wonder (2 if you count 2001). In 12 seasons as a college head coach he's posted win totals of 13, 10, 9(x3), 8(x2), 7(x2), 6(x3).

If I told you that the 13, 10 and one of the 9s was at LSU, would you be surprised? I know that coaching is more than just wins and losses, but, ultimately that is the yardstick by which head football coaches are judged.

By comparison:

Tubby has posted win totals of: 13, 11, 9(x4), 8, 7 and 5 at the school he's coaching right now. Why does the Bama coach make so much more?

Les Miles is 90-48 in his entire coaching career, over 5 percentage points high of the WVMD. He's also the first head coach to defeat Bob Stoops twice. While not as good away from LSU (except for the performance against OU), Miles has been even better at LSU, winning 34 games in just three years. A crazy 14-0 season in 2008 will put him with as many wins in four years as his predecessor posted in 5 seasons.

Without LSU the WVMD has 0 National Championships (for that matter, so does Les Miles), and is making about $1.2 million at Michigan State.

Would anyone consider not booing when Saban comes to Tiger Stadium in November?

I'm not a big fan of booing, as it's akin to having nothing to say so you just make a noise. Like Steve Carrell in Anchorman screaming ,"LOUD NOISES!!!"

That being said, frick Saban. I was a huge fan of his while he was here, and even completely understood when he left for his "dream job." When he DECIDED to come back to college football IN OUR CONFERENCE and IN OUR DIVISION then he ceased being our pal and became our enemy. Why on Earth would we cheer a guy who decided to come back and try and help destroy what he had built by virture of attempting to build up an intradivisional rival? I guy who now attempts to poach talent from our state using inroads he made while our coach? A guy who attempts to take credit for successes on the field which took place years after he left that he had nothing to do with?

No...I won't boo but there's not a chance in hell I'd cheer the guy now.

what about in a few years when we have a pre-game ceremony celebrating the 03 NC and Saban is invited as a guest? even gator fans cheered spurrier two years ago...

Because Steve Spurrier is still a Gator at heart. The guy played his college ball there and won a Heisman. Nick Saban was a paid coach with no affiliation to LSU other than cashing checks. Spurrier didn't go to USC to spite Florida...had Foley not expected Spurrier to go and interview for the job he'd have gladly gone back to coach in Gainesville.

Apples and oranges.

Saban will one day admit he made a mistake by taking the Bama job in reference to his glory days at LSU. He's already admitted he made a mistake by leaving LSU for the NFL. The dude is digging out of a huge mistake hole since leaving LSU but getting paid 4 million a year doing it.

Saban reminds me of the Chinese lady who elbows me out of the way when I'm reaching for a nice looking head of lettuce at the grocery store. Before I know it she's pushed her way in and grabbed it, then turns and smiles. This is exactly what Saban has done. I'm going to Bama to make more money and at the same time smile at LSU and say all the right things. He did the same thing to Miami. It's all about Saban and no one else. I even think Bama fans know this. They are just hoping he stays long enough to give them 4 years of great recruiting. I will not cheer him as coach of Bama. Anything is better then what they've had the last 10 or 15 years.

Next year, when Paterno retires and Saban goes back to his northern roots, this topic will be moot.

It will be Penn State and the Governor of West Virginia fighting over Saban. When Saban takes his new 7 million a year job Terry Saban will be quoted as saying "Well Mal Moore and Alabama just did not want to let us go, but now we are so happy to be here."

Incorrect. His recruiting turned LSU from a mid-level SEC team to a National contender that almost any coach can win with.

Dont fool yourself.

Yeah he brought us a NC in 2003 but to me he is a prostitute that went for the money! He was the king of the BR and decided to leave! It really depends on how much I drink that day but what I say to him is not going to be nice! Might even

You mean his recruiting of players like Michael Clayton and Marcus Spears from Baton Rouge? Saban was a great recruiter, but he would not have done as well as he did, without the commitment from the Administration to upgrade the facilities. There are many things that lead to the turn around at LSU, Nick Saban was one of them.

Say what you want but without Mark Emmit being the chancellor and ties to Nick Saban (ME hired him)LSU would have hired someone else. So it is as much as an ME doing.
