FWIW, I think people are blowing the JJ aspect of this out of proportion. Yes, I reported he was still getting the golden treatment, but like I said, we start the season against a team that was a FG away from being the defending national champions. It's not like we can trot a guy like Mett who has never taken a D-1 snap onto the turf in JerryLand and expect him to play lights out.
JJ isn't the prettiest option, but right now he's our best chance to beat OU. My point was that I wish there was more of this alleged "open competition" so that we could at least get an idea of how far along Mett really is.

My guess is that Miles is putting all his energy into getting JJ ready. I don't think you will see a true "open competition" based on things Miles has said.

I think Miles is trying to work him in.
I would wager that Mett will get a shot in the fall.

I'll take that wager. Define "fall". Pre-Oregon? Pre-losses? Your scenario of LSU being undefeated and replacing a healthy JJ with Mett will NEVER happen.

Are you so far gone that you don't want to see JJ play well?

have to agree
mett won't get the majority of the snaps ever with JJ healthy IMO.

why not?

I was the first one to say he'd be the next Jason Campbell in 2011. I said this before LAST season. I hope he throws 50 touchdowns and 0 interceptions while leading LSU to a perfect season. I doubt he does this, but hope springs eternal.

I was speaking of the scenario you've posted on here multiple times. You've said LSU will win and JJ will be replaced by midseason by Mett. I don't see anyway this happens.

I assumed by "fall", Roaad meant fall practice. Am I right Roaad?
And why exactly would anyone want an undefeated, healthy JJ replaced...especially if he's playing well?
Man, I'm excited about Mett, and think he'll be the future under center for 2012 and 2013, but some of you are overboard. Probably the same crowd that thinks Mike Ford is the best RB on the team.

I think if Mett plays really well, and JJ keeps escaping while playing like shite. . .
In that scenario, Miles would make the switch.+

It happened last year. The majority wanted him out far before LSU's first loss.

You conveniently left out the rest of my sentence...

and by the end of the year it was evident that the staff probably managed the mess at QB as best they could.

Yeah, but you left out the "....if he's playing well" part, which he clearly wasn't last year.

He didn't last year. I don't think he will in 2011 either.

remember, lee was playing much better than JJ, and yet JJ still got the majority of the snaps.

Honestly I doubt Mett gets a "fair" shot at winning the starting job. I think he ends up the #2 and gets to see action in a few games. Probably less than what Lee saw last year honestly.
Unless JJ regresses or Mett turns into Manning out there then I believe he is destined to be that #2 QB.
I do not think it is the "open" competition we heard about when Krag was hired but as long as LSU is winning and QB play has improved no one will honestly care.

Did Lee get more and more PT as the season went on last year, until he also started playing like poo? Does Miles have more options this year, or a better alternative?
