What do the schools realize from the SEC championship game? Does the winner get the biggest share or do both teams playing get the same? The others get how much?
I’m honestly not sure. I think the revenue generated from the game is simply split among the entire conference (minus expenses for the 2 teams participating).

the SEC championship game is a better game than most first round playoff games every year.
It sure wasn't this year.
Oh, wait, Bama got their arse beat with Georgia holding them to negative rushing yards.
You're right, it was better than most first round playoff games.
GEAUX TIGERS!

The amount generated from the game itself goes into the SEC "general fund" if you will. However, the bigger aspect is it is a big piece of the TV contract. ESPN/ABC wouldn't inclined to pay as much if the SECCG was not a part of the "product" it is buying. I'm sure there is some sort of condition in the TV contract that if the SECCG is eliminated, then the amount ABC/ESPN pays is lessened.
ESPN/ABC is not going to pay the same amount for a "lesser" product. And the SEC isn't going to give up revenue by eliminating the SECCG unless that revenue can be recuperated. Same for the other power conferences. That means it would probably take expansion of the CFP to replace the lost championship game money for the conferences to agree to eliminate the championship games.

With playoffs now they can do away with this SECCG game, which is basically a money grab nuisance for fans. Those two teams more than likely in the playoffs anyway. Plenty of football left to play and they don’t need this game. The regular season champ can go to team with best record and use tie breakers, if necessary.

12 teams.
1 wildcard game: highest win % G5 team vs lowest win % regular season conference champ from the P4.
The G5 is a mathematical construct of win % for the actual team and their opponent’s win %. So very likely this year it would have been JMU.
This shite isn’t that complicated. It’s all politics man!

Also, the SEC & Big Ten have extremely high TV contracts that include the conference CG's. This helps them keep their income way above the other conferences and they aren't going to lose that advantage.
