*#7
*BH in his junior year. he has the talent and JR year is typically when the lightbulb comes on and the game slows down.
*Dupre also a junior - talent to be best WR in the SEC
*We have recruited well on the OL - replacing a few guys but i like our OL coach
*Return top line talent at every level of the defense (godchaux, adams, key, white, beckwith)
*hired best young DC in the country
*purple reign
*TGBFTL
*Guice backing up #7 - one helluva one-two punch if #7 needs a breather
*tough competition in the west but that's nothing new. *MSU down a bit w/o prescott
*FL is a bit of an unknown but i think we win.
*Auburn is way down
*Missouri is a disaster
*Season really hinges (shockingly) on Bama, Ole Miss, Arkansas. we'll know how good we are when we play Ole Miss. If we beat them handily then the question is are we good enough to beat bama at home (we had them pretty much beat the last two times but......), then the question is do we have a let down or are we too beat up to beat Arkansas.
*A&M is A&M - we win that one.

Why? Why did the Germans bomb Pearl Harbor?

I'll bite.
The usual past "excuses", inexperienced QB, significant underclassmen leaving for the NFL, etc. are not present going into this year. Harris is a Junior who has started 13 games and played in several others. White stayed. Pocic stayed. Beckwith stayed. Dural stayed. The only significant underclassman to leave early was Hawkins.
16 starters (with the loss of Lacoture) return. A top 3 recruiting class, with the strength being at DL, joins them. LSU seems to have upgraded at DC.
Bama (while they will still be great) lost some significant players, especially along the DL. AND, LSU gets them at home where they have been one drive away from winning with lesser teams. (As opposed to '13 and '15 there which were more or less blowouts). The 2nd best team in the West (Ole Miss) also comes to BR.
Simple question -- If not now, then when?
Now I still don't trust Miles not to go ultra-risk averse and make some games much scarier than they need to be, nor does it make me comfortable knowing that in his 11 prior seasons here he's only had two seasons where he DIDN'T lose at least 2 regular season games. That said, when LSU starts the season highly touted (05, 06, 07, '11), they generally (not always -- see '08, '12) perform up to expectations. This is one of those seasons

I think the biggest factor is the lack of attrition on this team, especially to the NFL.
Every NFL caliber Junior (or 3rd year) returned for this season. That typically doesn't happen at LSU.
Les Miles best seasons have been with experienced QB's and top defenses. Harris is a Junior and Aranda could be the best DC in the nation.
LSU get Bama, Ole Miss, and State at home. Tough road games at Auburn, Florida, and aTm appear to be against programs on the decline.
R-Kansas has always been tough and will be again.

Just to set the record straight: Hawkins was a fourth year red-shirt Junior that had graduated. Good luck to him in the NLF.

they have as good as shot as any team in the country to win it all.
this; nothing less and nothing more. anything can happen so we need a break or two to win it all. the main thing is to win the SEC west and that, as usual, will come down to the Bama game.

It won't be, you should know by now that LSU's year is always next year.

We have it all this year dude.

Why will this year be THE year?
This is the best combination of raw talent and experience we've had in at least 5 years
I don't know if that means national championship but there is no reason to believe we won't be in the mix
Returning 17 starters out of 22 including QB and all offensive skill players other than TE who was more of a glorified tackle anyway
Upgrade at defensive coordinator, 3 out of 4 starting secondary players return
Great incoming class to provide depth in areas of need, particularly on special teams which was a big problem last year
Is this THE year? I don't know. But if you can't look at the off season developments and be excited about the potential of this team then don't bother calling yourself a fan of LSU football. Because you aren't.

Why will this year be THE year?
Nah. Why waste my time on somebody who isn't a serious buyer? You can always jump on the bandwagon somewhere down the road or say, "I told you so" when you don't.

Yes. I'm 12. Now, what part of my statement confused you? Or, I guess, triggered you?

Ok, here goes.
It's all about money and who you know. Hope that helps.
