No and it is not close.

Remember all HoF have been watered down in the last 25 years, by putting in border line players.

But retiring numbers is worse when it is a border line player.

other than:

Maravich
Petit
Shaq
Rudy

only CJ, and Ethan are close to that level.

There is a big drop form there to Ricky, and I have 7 other players ahead of him

i agree with this

Good player, NO jersey retirement. The bar for jersey retirement should be incredibly high.

Ironic, as HoF standards have become tougher in baseball and football over the past 25 years. Though I will agree that as much as I love Blanton... no, you can't retire his jersey.

No he's a good guy, but not deserving of this. Chris Jackson is the only guy I can think of that would even be close to the guys up there already.

Pete Maravich was 29 hours short of his bachelors degree in Business Administration when he originally left LSU.

https://books.google.com/books?id=_Xkzg6ck590C&dq=Pete+Maravich+%2B+college+degree&printsec=frontcover&source=in&hl=en&ei=k4hxS7v6M82Ptgf01qH0CQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=11&ved=0CCsQ6AEwCg#v=onepage&q=Pete%20Maravich%20%2B%20college%20degree&f=false

Buddy Roemer signed legislation to name the PMAC in 1988. I'm pretty sure I read that he completed his degree after retiring from the NBA.

All of this is code for "let's retire the white guy's number."

Translation: Only black guys are good enough at basketball to get their number retired.

Bob Petit and Pete Maravich disagree with this ignorant racist bullshite.

I remember watching sportscenter many years ago, and they showed a highlight from a Bulls (maybe it was the Suns?) game, where Ricky Blanton missed a layup on a fast break...

They said "could this be the worst player to ever play in the NBA?".

That hurt me in a way. I never want to see any former LSU athlete mocked like that. Especially one who gave his all every time he was on the court in an LSU uniform. A true role player that played every spot except the 1. Vernel Singleton is another player in that mold whom I greatly admire. A guy making the most out of his talent and playing unselfish and being a good ambassador for LSU.

I think Blanton was a great Tiger and a class act; but I don't think he deserves to get his jersey retired.

He'll always be fondly remembered by those who watched him play, including me.

Maybe my all-time favorite LSU basketball player. I just loved watching him play. He's a good comp to Blanton. In my heart, I'd love to retire Singleton's number, but in my head, I know we shouldn't.

Hell, the basektball player with the best case to have a jersey retired is Sylvia Fowles.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I always heard that he didn't and couldn't join the LSU Hall of Fame. Naming a building after someone only requires legislative approval, not a college degree or any other association with LSU.

I think you are correct. Maravich didn't finish his degree.

does him playing a part in putting nicholls basketball on probation tarnish this image?

The probation stuff was not done by him.

Ronald Dupree, Howard Carter, Tasmin Mitchell and Glen Davis with possibly Ronnie Henderson would be the only qualified players.

Sparky Wade is by far the most glaring omission here. Technically, his number actually has been retired, since it was the same number as Maravich's--but his name should still be brought up when #23 is mentioned as being retired...
