Looks like the best team he had fielded in his 4 years here. We shall see.

100%. You can only go to the well so many times before you find the dead hooker at the bottom.

Nuanced in comparison to the CMM haters that imeediately say everything sucks and the McMen think we are winning the SEC at this point and will eventually claim that nothing is CMM's fault and he just needs one more year.
This post is that we show signs of being decent but we aren't there yet.

You can't exclude Nwoko. You can't. He looks like a beast in the paint and looks like our best player so far.
I agree he has been realy good but why does he play less than half the game? Its hard to say that he is a top 3 player on the team when he doesn't even play starter minutes.

Danergous in the sense that they could make the tournament. Not that they could actually win the thing.

Good take. I’d like to think we have the pieces to make the tournament, but we have to prove it on the floor. Hopefully Matt gets it done. If not it’s time to move on.

The team sucks. Everybody knows it. We can window dress and lipstick this pig all we want, but come cuttin’ time straight to the bottom of the sec we go. It’s clears as day
Such a doomer take. This team plays good and still knows they can play better. They are actually enjoyable to watch this year and the front court is 5 deep.

Mcmahon could have played Nwoko 30 minutes last night and crushed Alcorn early. Big deal. What would that have proved. I'm sure once we get into the meat of the schedule against better competition his minutes will go up so why wear him down now. I like the fact he wanted to see what the rest of his squad could do. And the fact that you can't say ANYTHING positive about this team shows you how mentally unstable and miserable a lot of these "fans' are. I too want to see this team against better competition but dissing UCF and UNO as cupcakes is stupid on it's face. And not recognizing that in basketball sometimes lesser competition can hang around for a while shows how little basketball most of these buffoons watch. I haven't seen ANYONE saying this is a great team or they will challenge for the SEC championship. What they do say is that it is the best team he has had.It is the best PG since Waters. Nwoko is developing into an offensive force in the middle much quicker than we thought. We have some other talented bigs who can play inside and outside. We go to the FT line a lot and are scoring much batter with more assists than last few years including rebounding better. Defense needs to be more consistent but we did hold UCF and UNO to 58 and 68 points so it's not like they've never played defense.

In game 1 he had two 1H fouls. He had 4 fouls vs. FIU. He was a starter at MSU last year, but only averaged 15 mpg. A big reason for that is he had the highest foul rate of any regular player on the team. Also, I suspect the reason for the limited minutes is MM wants to get Miller and Reed significant PT in these games.
For a little bit of context, he played 32 minutes vs. UCF. Some of that had to do with Miller being out. However, he was in the game in crunch time...until he fouled out.
If by game 10 or 11 he's performing well, staying out of foul trouble, and still only playing ~20 mpg, then that will be a concern. But for now, it's not a big deal

quote:I disagree, the only reason he is still here is because of that clown Woodward. MM is 14-40 in SEC play What other school in the SEC would still have a coach after posting that record? If he doesn’t make the tournament he has to go and no moral victories BS either

So, we might win 3 SEC games.

We’ve never really been a good defensive team under McMahon. Our offense has been so inept that they milk 90% of the shot clock to get a poor look and thus shorten the game.
This year we may have the horses (namely Thomas) to run a bit more so the opponent will get more possessions thus leading to higher scoring games.
This might have to be an 18/19 Wade style team that outguns their opponents vs walking them down and clamping up.

Hard to judge because they’ve played nobody but they’ve done what they’re supposed to do. Your comments about defense are valid, the rebounding concerns are valid and I’d add that there are some personnel issues along with a couple of head scratching patterns with certain players.

They look to have more consistent shooters and they are simply bigger than past CMM teams. Let’s ride!

LSU is taking care of really bad competition
While this is largely true, it does look like UNO may be better than most of us thought. They won at TCU and romped at Tulane. LSU destroyed them. It's definitely the Tigers' best win so far.

Maybe...but the 3 point shooting has dipped quite a bit the last two games. 4/16 (25%) and 6/21 (29%) with ONE player, Sutton, making half of those, doesn't exactly speak to having "more consistent shooters".
Hopefully, that is just a two game aberration

Based on the shooters, I’m hoping the form results in a better result. Proof will be on the conference pudding. No doubt.

The defense and rebounding are my biggest concerns so far.
I understand why we switch on screens, but it seems teams are picking up on that and then getting a big on a quick guard which then allows dribble penetration which is leading to kick outs and open 3's. And, it is putting smaller players on bigger players under the boards leading to offensive rebounds.
Maybe McMahon is saving some defensive looks, but we need to find alternate ways to defend if we are going to ask Robert Miller to defend a guard on the perimeter.
I'd also love for Jalen Reed and Miller to become more physical. You are freaking 6'10". Act like it!
2-guard remains my biggest concern. We don't really have a good one out of Mackinnon, King or Carter.

Pro: they have decent length across the board.
Con: they have a LONG way to go defensively.
