Glasco seems like a genuine good guy who is trying to run his program in a classy way.
Lotief, meanwhile, is an absolute piece of shite.
100% correct.
Coach Glasco also helped rebuild the fans' relationship with Yvette Girouard, the person who built up the program, some with her and her family's own money and resources. Mike Lotief continuously threw gasoline on the feeling of "betrayal" some Cajuns softball fans felt towards Yvette.
Lotief eventually revealed his true colors when he tried to tear down and destroy the program on his way out the door.

When you make claim to be The University of Louisiana, you can’t pretend to be the little ol’ school from Lafayette when you lose to the real big dogs.
We are a mid major program that consistently resides inside the Top 25. We are doing just fine.

So, the LJCSWLA softball Leviathan's lost another game to LSU?
The Lafayette Junior College of Southwest Louisiana bunch have no more a right to be called "UL" than do their counterparts at Monroe Junior College of Northest Louisana.
Neither are anything more than Junior Colleges, which by the way, the State of Louisiana should have a full System of. (Way too many 4 year Colleges)
All of the Colleges in the State should be converted to JC's except for LSU, Tulane, La. Tech, Southern and Grambling.
You are the epitome of the backwards Louisiana paradigm. Congrats.

I am glad you mentioned this...it is also very true.
I always thought it was awful how ULL fans treated Girouard for many years after she left to go to LSU. I am glad those fences seem to be mended. She had a chance to double her salary and not be forced to drive the team van to games every week. How can you begrudge her for that?
I went to the regional in Lafayette in 2002, which was her second year at LSU. LSU and Arizona State played in the championship game on Sunday and a lot of ULL fans came to the ballpark for the sole purpose of cheering against Girouard. Some of the things they said and yelled at her during the game were just mean, spiteful, and petty.
She absolutely deserves to have the field named after her there and I am glad they got that done.

I knew Gerry long before he went to Lafayette and he has done a great job mending the relationship between LSU and ULL. Lotief was a first class jerk and as long as he was the coach, LSU wasn't going to play them. I like that the two top programs in the state play again.

There was alot from all sides that made the entire situation a disaster in the relationship when it shouldn't have been. I think alot of Cajuns fans (myself included, to an extent) would have been ok with her leaving for any big program except LSU. Not just simply because of the "hatred" some had for LSU, but because softball was the one program where we could compete neck and neck with ya'll more than any other sport, and she was a big reason for that. She had been the equalizer for us.
But I couldn't blame her one bit for taking the next big job offer and bolting. I was an athlete during that time at UL, and it was blatantly obvious the President & Vice President of the university (especially the President) were perfectly fine allowing athletics to whither away. Ray Authement put a strangle-hold on athletic fundraising, and every time Coach Yvette asked for some support or some easing of his Hitler-type ruling of what coaches could and couldn't do to get money support for their programs, she was dismissed.
I believe years and years later, she said that maybe she could have handled things a little better on her way out and during her early years at LSU, but she obviously felt betrayed by the university.
Interesting note, the first time Mike Lotief was fired (the time he was fired for good wasn't the first time there were issues with his behavior and arrogance), it was maybe mere days prior to the start of the season, I remember Yvette being rumored as someone to possibly be a fill-in until a coaching search could be conducted. Rumors from pretty good sources, so the relationship was starting to be repaired back then. Obviously, though, getting Mike Lotief out and bringing in someone with class like Coach Glasco helped accelerate things for her to receive proper recognition.

Appreciate the insight from your point of view.
From what you can tell, are there still people down there (fans, former players, or whatever) that are Team Lotief? As in they think he should still be the coach and that he didn't deserve to be shown the door? Or does that fanbase pretty much realize that him leaving was for the best?

Gerry is a class act. Him and Torina are really good friends, so I look forward to this being a fun annual series moving forward. Good for the state and college softball in general with these high ranked matchups.

From what I've witnessed, id say majority are backing Glasco and understand Lotiefs firing was justified. There are still a few (fans and players both) that are still slamming down their fists and saying "bring back lotief". It was a mess, and Glasco did an amazing job of getting a team on the field in the midst of all that.

There's no way that's correct. They probably spend more or equal to some P5's, especially Big Ten schools, but there's no way they're spending with the SEC or top of the PAC/ACC/Big 12. Can't even put padding on that wooden outfield fence.

Is that the metric being used to determine spending? Padding on an outfield fence? Lol

Nobody could sap an opponent's momentum like that guy. You could take a nap during one of his trips to the mound. It took him 5 minutes to get there. And the refs couldn't say anything to him because of his health.

The metric, no. A pretty obvious sign, yes. You seen any SEC park that has this?
But really common sense is the determiner. Overall, their athletic department brings in 1/4th as much as the major P5 programs so the odds of them spending as much on any of their individual teams is very low. They care about the sport so they probably do outspend programs that are mainly just fielding teams for Title IX purposes but nobody who has money and is trying to compete.

One thing to note, beyond softball specific spending/accommodations, are those for all athletes that make recruiting for these $80 Million+ athletic budget schools much easier.
Go to any SEC, Big 12, Pac 12, or Big 10 school, and athletes enjoy nutrition options, access to trainers, sports phycologists, gear and equipment, tutors, etc. that virtually no G5/mid-major school can offer, certainly not a Sunbelt program with UL's athletic budget.
That kind of stuff goes a long way for recruits and their parents. Well, I guess some athletes and their parents won't care about the access to high level educations tools stuff....
