just because they have 4 or 5 stars next to their name doesn't give them any experience or mean they are any good for sure
Once again you are showing your lack of knowledge about LSU football.
The guys stepping in to replace the ones who departed for the NFL have plenty of experience.
On the d-line,Glen Dorsey was a two year starter, he waited his turn but played plenty as an underclasman. They guy who is taking his place Ricky Jean Francious will be a fourth year junior who happened to be the defensive MVP of the BCS Champioship game. Marlon Favorite is a veteran senior. They are backed up by Al Woods, Drake Nevis and others who have big game experience.
Kirsten Pittman? It's his 6th year. Charles Alexander was a starter who got hurt and will be back this year. Tyson Jackson is a beast who could have gone to the NFL this year but will be back for his fourth year.
On the O-line we lose Carnell Stewart who was a converted d-lineman who statred one year no big loss there because he will be replaced by Joseph Barkdale who was the top HS lineman in America two years ago and played plenty last year. At tight end Richard Dickson is a potential All American and a returning starter. You may remember he had two TD's vs Ohio St in the BCS Championship game.
At RB Hester is gone but we have a stable of experienced backs stepping in to take over all have big game experience.
At linebacker we lose Highsmith and Sanders. Highsmith was an undersized gamer and Sanders was a solid but unspectacular two year starter. They are replaced by Kelvin Shepaard and Perry Riley who have plenty of playing time. There are several underclassmen who will push them for playing time namely Kellen Theriot, a true freshman who is a beast and Jacob Cutrera others.
At D-back we lose Steltz, Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Zenon. This is where we lose the most. Steltz will be replaced by Chad Jones who logged a bunch of playing time as a true freshman. The corners will be Jai Eugene a third year sophomore who played in nickel and dime packages last year and Phelon Jones a red shirt freshman who was one of the top HS corners in the country two years ago. Patrick Johnson THE top HS corner in the country last year will also see the field as a true freshman. Curtis Taylor, Harry Coleman Danny Mcrae, Ron Brooks and Stephon Francois are all veterans who will comptete for playing time.
So this idea that we won't know whether the young guys are any good until they get experience is as wrong as it is ignorant. Just because you don't know them yet does not mean they are any less capable than their well know predecessors. You will know them after this year.
Did you know who Jacob Hester was two years ago? Even amoung LSU fans he was a bit of an unknown, a stubby legged, two star, white converted fullback. Matt Flynn? Held for extra points for 4 years.and on and on.
At LSU you don't see the field without beating out many other talented players usually after a year or two of development on the practice field and under the best strength and conditioning program in the country.

Thats stuff I am actually am interested in reading. if people could respond more like that instead of flaming.
on paper you should clearly win, im just backing up the article on reasons why we COULD win.
Im aware of the beasts on the Dline you have.
Ricky Jean Francious has been and will continue to be a beast. hopefully Armanti can take advantage of the (what seems like) an inexperienced secondary for the most part.

The secondary is young, very, very talented, with more experience than you might expect.
Craig Steltz got hurt in the BCSNC game and an heard of safety--Harry Coleman-- was inserted and played not just good ----but great---safety.
Harry played like a man possessed. Not even many LSU fans had ever heard of him before.
Coach Miles expects the backups to be ready and be productive when their number is called. Inexperience is not a reason to 'not' make plays or carry out their assignments properly. The third string guys are very talented and just waiting to play.

You must have a huge headache trying to think about ways to talk down the talent LSU brings to the field at every position. I'd like to talk about the 4 or 5 star players that AppState will bring to the game, but I can't because they don't have any. That will be the difference.

I don't mean to talk them down, just that they are as unproven as the 4-5 star prospects on Defense we beat in Michigan. They very well could end up being great, but at least for a few positions like DB(besides Chad Jones) we just don't know yet.
heres to hoping Armanti Edwards can pass well on em.

Hey appguy,
Most Tiger fans don't look at a pushover in the App game. Should be a good game and am looking for a Tiger win. Depends on the Tigers attitude and I think you took care of that against Mich.
The Tigers will be ready and after a quarter of jitters at OB we should roll.

Appguy,
I am exhausted reading through the whole thread.
You were a one man Defensive Line.
I agree with most of what you wrote. APP State will not be embarrassed. We HOPE to stay in the game and see what happens in 4th quarter.
I am realistic we are playing LSU in Tiger Stadium. I was there in 2005 and enjoyed it. We know not to be intimidated. Probibility is most likely with this game.......... at the same time I would never underestimate APP.

Appguys:
It is really cute seeing you talk smack against the defending National Champions in football. But other than your QB, I see no evidence that this will be a game at all. I imagine that Vegas will have this as a 21 pt. differential MINIMUM. And of course, you will bring up the Michigan game but I love the fact that you never mention that Michigan got skull drug the following week by Oregon in the "Big House".
They were a team clearly in total disaray early in the year. Luckily, they got Notre Dame next.
Nothing wrong with getting excited.
Just know your place in the college football world. LSU is one of the big boys. You are not.

Think you underestimate croom and the Bulldogs...this CRApp guy is talking trash based on the so called exploits of their QB. Doesn't make their program legit. Miss. State is legit and they have consistently proven themselves, against MORE THAN ONE TEAM and won bowl games.
That's more of a nod to App. State's merit than a slam on MSU, who I tend to root for because they're usually the underdogs, and they do play hard.
App. State's recent NC's in their division make them perfectly legit. Going to Michigan and beating them at the Big House in a higher division was exceptional. They're a very good program.
Again, I don't expect them to beat LSU. But if LSU comes out and plays like they expect to win by two TD's just because they're playing a lower division opponent, it could be an issue.

Kinda like Stanford huh??? Pac-10 or not!! It was a bigger upset than App. vs. Mich!!!

If app depends on the quarterback to do it all don't be suprised if he doesn't get knocked out of the game running the ball. Tebow and Florida came to the realization that he won't be able to run the ball as much in the future. Sooner or later in the SEC he would get KO'd. App quarterback probably wouuld have more success against the big 12.

Well, they might not care but at least they know where wer are now! As as for the smack talk from App fans....let us have our 15 minutes of fame would ya? We are the best thing that could have happened for LSU's season and don't think that Les and company don't know that. You will be ready from day 1, and your fans will be as loud as they are for any team. The fact that we will get both the teams and fans best is wonderful and a sign that we can't be taken lightly.
I have no idea how we will do but I'll be there. I do know we will give you our best. I won't even bother yelling because it will be futile. It will be interesting to see how much we get booed when we take the field.

How is this thread 14 pages? The first person should have just responded with
and let this thing fall out. Fourteen pages makes us seem like we take App State seriously.

I'd be curious how much $$$$ they put on ASU in this game.........
I think ASU is going to find the task much harder than they expect. To the contrary, I see a hungry LSU squad putting them away early.
