I tried this a couple of weeks ago by saying that Patrick Peterson was a Saban recruit so Miles shouldn't get any credit. I thought it was obvious that I was being intentionally sacrastic (no way he could have been recruited by Saban - simple math doesn't allow it) and playing to the argument that Miles was only successful because of Saban's recruits and when they were all gone we would never see that quality of player again.
I was wrong.
People jumped all over my case, called me stupid, etc. They kept doing it even after I came back and explained that I was joking and trying to make a point.
It was lost on them.
From experience, let me tell you that this kind of post is a bad idea. Rantards don't get it. Never will.

Maybe you should have added a :sarcasm: to the original post. Sarcasm is easily lost in text.

When Saban was here, he was so successful that he gave the program a lot of great, positive exposure around the country. Therefore, recruits wanted to come to LSU. Even after Saban left, the effects of that exposure have lingered for the past several years and continued to attract recruits. Thusly, we are still playing with Saban's recruits...hypothetically. Make sense?
Oh, that makes perfect sense.....because the definition of a RECRUIT is a 18 year old kid who falls in love with a program based on something that happened when that kid was between the age of 8 and 12 years old and of course whomever the coach was at that time deserves all of the credit. No way a kid comes to the school based on the current coach, current success of the program or the fact that it is the flagship university of the state he grew up in.

Let's see, since Saban won his first SEC title in '01 then utilizing your theory we're still winning with Dinardo's recruits Sensational.

We lost 5 games the last year Saban was here. When will it end?
Yeah - Saban won with Dinardo's recruits. (Just because it sounds silly, doesn't mean it's not true.)

No doubt about it. You have been bashed in this thread but LSU's success as far as recruiting started with Dinardo and then NS took it to another level. Your point may have been better had you just said that Saban laid the foundation and CLM has kept it going.....but the CLM fans are so touchy when they percieve CLM isn't getting his due they go bezerk. Saban built the program to the level it is not only by winning but by improving facilities that definitely help us in recruiting.

When we were losing all those recruits in the 90's to Miami and other out of state schools do you not think that part of the reason was because kids became fans of those schools at an early age? Miami was dominant....LSU wasn't.....lots of kids from New Orleans left the state for Miami and other schools because LSU sucked. So you do not believe it helps that LSU has been dominant over the last 10 years? Most people love winners.

It was only 3 losses(Remember Iowa?) but I do get your point.

Of course they do....and even better when the team you grew up rooting for through thick and thin is winning.
......I guess the sarcasm was lost on you?
