Milazzo would've made the throw against Bama if they had it there.
Nope. Lost his composure and made an error.

I don’t really have a problem with it and it’s not complicated. On a close play at first the runner uses the green base and the fielder uses the white base, this helps prevent collisions and injuries on bang bang plays.

My question is, are they not solving a problem that doesn’t exist? How many times do runners and first baseman collide and get injured?

I suspect that a huge part of this is trying to remove the borderline interference situations at first base. If you put the runner’s target outside the foul line, he has no excuse to leave the running lane.

I’m sure safety plays a part in this (as well as the existence of the running lane in the first place) but it seems to me that it’s more about getting rid of some of the controversy/subjectivity in officiating. Which is obviously a bit ironic given our recent experience against Alabama.

Forreal. People are so upset, that they’re now calling for the abolishment of the dropped third strike rule lol. This ain’t nothing at all and a good thing if anything.

I think it will create confusion all around.

Again y’all are making it out to be more complex than it is. I think it looks janky but it’s not that complicated.

It's going to be very complicated when a third strike ricochets towards the first base dugout and the first baseman goes to set up in foul territory like he's been taught his entire life.

From the link:

quote:

After a dropped third strike, if the fielder is drawn to the side of the colored base, the runner would go the white base and the fielder to the colored base. On a dropped third strike, the fielder and batter-runner may touch either the white or colored base.

Well then it should be common sense for the runner to touch the white bag in this scenario lol. He’ll know where the ball went, he’ll see where the first baseman is setting up at, and he’ll instinctively go towards the white bag.

Why not get rid of the bizarre rule if catcher drops third strike.

Because it is one of the oldest contiguous rules in baseball history, and was part of the very first definition of what a strikeout is. (see rule 11 in the link below)

Cant wait to try to explain this one to my wife.

Wait'll she sees the infield fly rule invoked. That and the 'bound rule' that drove the 3rd strike rule oughtta drive her out of the game completely.

Some people hate anything in the name of player safety because they think it makes them look tough

This is a change that will harm nothing. It’s the equivalent to making players wear helmets. It doesn’t change or alter the game it simply limits collisions

So if the first baseman comes down on the green base it’s automatically safe? Does that mean if they touch any part of the green base it’s automatically safe?
